I was not able to commute to work today due to commitment during working hours, though I did ride for 12miles this am before work and that was a nice ride. It was very foggy out and lots of humidity in the air, sometimes it felt as if the skies would let go but they did not. Hopefully tomorrow will not have any interferences with my cycling to work.

It was a warm 19C (66F) with a high of 25C (77F) but thunderstorms this afternoon. It's been humid these last few days and so sweat, even during the ride, will roll down my forehead and either into my eyes (stings!) or down the lens of my glasses. I am going to try a headsweat-like cap under my helmet to see if it helps.
Currently, I'm riding 16km in and 19km home but next week my days start 45min later so I'll try the 31km route in, I should have time for it, it is a flatter and smoother route so my speed should be slightly higher.

Last night saw the heaviest one-day rainfall in Toronto history. Some commuters were stranded 7 hours on a train in the Don Valley near Pottery Road, with flooding over its lower level seats - they had to huddle on the upper level and eventually were rescued by boat. A full rush hour train with over 1500 people on it.
I didn't have it quite that bad. I stayed at work an extra hour, and the deluge had settled to heavy steady rain when I left, but I knew there would be traffic chaos and huge puddles and flooded underpasses, plus the power at work was out and I wasn't sure if the bike compound magnetic lock would be working, so I walked up to the bus stop. (In retrospect, the bike compound was probably unlocked, but no matter). The intersection was impossibly jammed due to rush hour and the traffic lights being out. I walked on in the lessening rain half a km, and luckily caught a bus that had "short-turned" and rode that until it malfunctioned due to moisture in the circuits, then got on the bus behind it, that also malfunctioned, with a rear-door alarm going for the whole 1 hour ride. But at least it drove. It should have been a 30 minute ride, but traffic was very slow due to multiple traffic lights out. We drove through a flooded underpass, zig-zagging between the stalled car and the tow-truck, and on to the terminal.
Traffic was even worse up there, due to road construction and more traffic lights out, so instead of catching a second bus, I walked another 30 min in the rain, which was picking up again and finally 3 km from home, I bailed and called my daughter to pick me up. I hadn't wanted to call earlier as she would have had to cope with traffic chaos, so I waited until I was within an easy, no hassle drive for her. Two and a half hours instead of the usual 1 hour by transit or 45 minutes by bike.
Left early this morning and had a slightly slow but otherwise uneventful bus ride in.

The humidity is 96% today but the ride was still very nice. I am riding to get a root canal this afternoon and then will head back home. My wife is meeting me at the endodontist in case I can't ride.

Came out to the garage this morning to find my rear tire completely flat. Pumped it up to the normal 80psi and rode to work. Checked the pressure when I got there and it was 45psi.
Looks like I have my first tube leak. I'm going to attempt a patch at lunch. Wish me luck!

Nice rainy ride in this morning after the July 4th break. I spent it at camp working so not much riding took place. It rained for the first 5 miles then it dried up for the remainder. Its amazing to watch the water and road crap roll off my fenders as I cruze along. I wouldn't want all that gunk on me and the bike. Rain is one thing but dirty water is something else.

Haven't ridden the road bike since my commute last Wednesday morning. Been too consumed with the teardown of my car's engine over the holiday weekend, so last night around 10 PM I just had to get out there and ride around a bit. Will be commuting home from work this afternoon. Since my car is up on jack stands, if I'm not bike commuting I'm having to bum rides or use the company car when possible.

I got a ride to work, with my bike on the car yesterday. I rode home in the high heat and humidity. I wore lightweight cotton trousers, which got pretty wet and dirty. I shouldn't wear those on the bike, especially in a light color. The ride is easy now. It's 10 miles along suburban streets in moderate traffic, and it's not hilly. This ride had a pretty stiff tailwind!
I rode in to work this morning. I'm wearing dark wool trousers, and it was much better. It was no hotter, and of course, I didn't look drenched. With this weather, I'm extremely careful not to ride too hard. I'm constantly shifting gears to make sure I'm not pedaling hard. Normally, I'm a masher, which isn't good for my knees' long-term health anyway.
I get NO HASSLES from drivers on NJ suburban streets! NJ drivers earn their reputation for terrible driving, but I don't see it when I'm on my bike. It's a very pleasant surprise.

Completed my first tube patch!
My hands are filthy, but I managed to keep my work clothes clean. I will definitely be including some latex gloves in my repair kit. The patch seemed to stick okay, although I was a bit surprised to see that they're really nothing more than stickers. We'll see if it holds up to 80psi.
I checked the tire, but nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of small bits of gravel stuck in the tread, but nothing coming through on the inside. The hole in the tube was so small that I needed to put it underwater (in the toilet, but don't tell anyone!) just to see where the air was coming out.
I do remember pulling a piece of a nail out of the sidewall a few weeks ago when I washed the bike. It must have just grazed the tube, and over the last few weeks, the hole expanded enough to go from a slow leak to a noticeable leak.

Worked from home for a couple hours, then had some work-related errands to run. I was originally going to drive, but it's a beautiful day, and I figured that I could carry whatever I purchased in my backpack because I wouldn't be carrying a change of clothes, so I rode instead. Very glad I did.

I said when I went to bed last night "I was going to ride unless it was already raining this morning." It was so foggy and soupy out this morning. I beleive it was as close to rain as it could be when I left the house. I eventually found some rain sprinkles on the way in but it was not bad. We shall see how the ride home goes. try to move up in my bike commuting diligience regardless of rain

Here's a tip. After doing a roadside repair that makes your hands dirty, rub them in dirt. Yes, I'm serious. The grit will remove the worst kinds of dirt. It won't make the color on your hands lighter and in fact will probably darken them, but it will be a better kind of dirt.

Overcast and a few sprinkles along the way. Very comfortable ride and pretty uneventful. The storms forecast for this afternoon should make things a bit more interestingQ

A nice cool 69 degrees with a small breeze. I have never known North Carolina summers to be like this. I'm loving it. The horses and mules were up at the fence on my route as well so that always makes my day followed by another fastest time for me. Can't wait for the ride home.

Man, you know it's a humid morning when you get to work and all the exterior glass on the building is soaked with condensation. 77° and 95% humidity. Like riding through warm soup. I still averaged 14.8 mph though, so I'm happy.

21C (70F), oppressively overcast, very humid and, as I was riding in, it started to shower but I only had a 300m (yd) to go. Besides, the rain was very warm so it didn't feel uncomfortable at all.
Forecast for showers and possibly thundershowers this afternoon. I will have to consider the mode of transport and route home when it gets close to the end of my day.
