With apologies for you westerners, it's cool, wet and windy here and forecast calls for the same all week. Amazes me how one part of the country is in drought and I think I need to start building an ark. Lots of debris including monster limbs on the trail this morning from weekend storms.

This commute felt good but I'm feeling really beat at my desk. Moving, all weekend and I thought it would never end. I wonder if some nice easy recovery rides will work for excessive lift and carry workouts. Maybe not, but I think I'll give it a try this evening.
This has been a really wet year for bike commuting and looks like it will continue that way. We've got rain and thunderstorms forecast for every day this week. As warm as it is I don't really mind the rain which can feel pretty good on a hot day, but thunderstorms I can do without.

Naw, the bike ride is comparatively relaxing. My sympathy is for my 16 year old son since it was just he and I doing the work. He's never experienced anything like that, and he did OK! But he's really going to feel it when he wakes up this morning.

Downpour. Rain was coming, but I thought I had enough time to get to work (only about 15 minutes). Not so. About five blocks from home, the skies opened, and the rain came down in buckets. Good thing I had decided to take a bike share bike at the last minute rather than my own. I docked it at a station, and ducked under an awning until the rain passed. I can usually ride in rain, but this was coming down in blinding sheets, so I thought better of it. I watched weather radar on my phone, and could see that once the rain stopped, I had a good window to get to work before more rain came (I had misjudged the weather radar when I left).
Nice things for the modern urban commute: bike share, and mobile weather radar.

Cool, wet, windy... I'm ready for summer to start.
I ran over a chipmunk with my back wheel on the ride home yesterday - the second in about a month. It's either a new chipmunk suicide method or I envision there's a bunch of chip & dale's lined up in the woods daring each other to run between the wheels... and I've gotten two slow ones

I felt good to be back on the bike after 4 days of drinking beer on a camping trip with the brother in law and both families.
Headwind, cool and cloudy morning.

I unintentionally beat my best commuting time. I'm normally a conservative commuter. Today, I dipped in & out of cars, took the lane at points I would normally jump on the sidewalk and kept a pace quicker than normal.
I think going around 2 buses and speeding up to get a lead that would hold until the next stop put me in a more aggressive mode. I don't think I ever slowed down to my normal pace. And I got comfortable going around cars on the left instead of taking the sidewalk when cars didn't leave room on the right.
Very humid though. And I'm hoping the rain misses me on my way home.

A bit odd, after a few days of 100+ tempture, (maybe 80~) in the morning. Dallas had a brisk 65, it was almost chilly! But the warmer days has gotten me a bit looser on the bike and really getting some good work in on my commute.

Dense fog advisory this morning, like riding through a horror movie. I thought I was going to have to turn off my front blinkie, then the sun started to break it up. Last ride of the week - taking tomorrow and Friday off. Happy 4th to all (Americans... sorry Canadian buds).

Good commute this morning. I managed a good time even with a good headwind. The Wind are suppose to shift in the afternoon so I'll have a good headwind tonight as well

+1. Seems to me that some of the regulars in this thread must be taking the whole week off...not much traffic this week.
Managed to avoid riding in record-breaking humidex readings yesterday (36C/97F actual, humidex of 43C/109F) by working from home in the morning, then in the afternoon, I walked to a nearby air-conditioned coffee shop and had a blended iced coffee while I worked. Today I rode to the office, and the weather is more bearable: 17C, overcast, a bit of rain, and tailwind. The afternoon should be nice.

My first commute this morning since I found out that I had the shingles last week. I did ride 3 times over the weekend and found that while I was cycling was the only time the shingles didn't hurt. However, it has been pouring buckets every day this week and this morning was the first break in the rain. Hopefully I won't get soaked on the ride home.
We are heading to England on vacation tomorrow, so I won't be commuting again until the week of July 15. Maybe the weather will dry out by then. I'm getting tired of all the rain.

Most commutes, I don't have much interaction with pedestrians or motorists verbally. It's rare. When it happens, it's usually either a passenger in a passing pickup truck yelling some obscenity that is hard to decipher due to the Doppler Effect, or it is a friendly pedestrian saying "Hi".
Last night, I had a pedestrian yell across the street, and what he said was the first thing I've had that was funny enough to make me laugh. He said, "You look like a box of highlighters!"
Since I was riding in a neon fluorescent orange shirt, neon fluorescent yellow socks, and neon fluorescent pink shoelaces on a bike with neon fluorescent yellow reflective tape, he was probably right. And funny.

Rain all day today, all day yesterday, I was trying to plan around heavier rain and projected flooding tomorrow but I finally realized that it will be the 4th and I don't have to worry about it

I have Thursday and Friday off. No bicycling this week though: running on Monday, rest yesterday, lifting weights today, and splitting and stacking firewood tomorrow and Friday. Back on the Fargo next Monday, though. With it's fresh new drive train! That will be my vacation project after the firewood/work outs.

Oh yeah, that's why I'm the first poster today, it is July 4, Independence Day in the US, have a great one my friends from the south!!!
Warm rides in yesterday and today, with a morning temp of 17C (63F) and an afternoon temp of 27C (81F). Clear and sunny both days.
Pushed it on my ride in today and made record time with an average speed of 25.7kmh (16mph). However, both days, I was passed by a Ferrari 458 while going up a hill, CHEATER!!!
I'd have had you had it not been for that hill!!!

Very humid and hot this morning but I won't complain. I had a good tailwind so I managed my commute under 1 hour (58 min. 5 sec. on my computer) without pushing too much.
Tonight I'm off for a one week vacation WOUHOU!!! Back on the 15th of july.

Enjoy your vacation, mine is scheduled for the first 2 weeks of August. Let's hope the weather is good for both of us although my local forecast for next week is very good so you should get that too.

Another Canuck checking in...beautiful morning in Edmonton at 15C, sunny, no wind. Maybe a bit more humid than we're used to around here.
Took a detour and discovered that riding down a long, steep, loose gravel path on a road bike with 23mm tires is a bit scary. Hard to modulate speed when you could easily lock the wheels on the gravel. Just about spilled near the bottom, but came through with the rubber side down. I've gone up that hill many times, but never down until this morning, and probably won't try it again.

I tried a Citibike for commuting yesterday. It was OK, except that it was 110% humidity and I was drenched by the time I dropped off the bike. I started on the subway, took the train to the closest kiosk, and then rode the rest of the way, about 6-7 miles. The best thing about this is that I don't necessarily have to ride back, and while I started back on bike yesterday, I gave up less than halfway to my starting point in the morning. It was just too humid. I dropped the bike at the nearest kiosk, found an air-conditioned bar, and had a cold one.
