SUCKED! Now who was it that wondered how long it would be after answering in the" how long has it been since your last flat" thread until you got your next flat?? WELL THAT WOULD BE TODAY.
Yes, your truly sattled up & heard the flop flop flop. But, I should have seen it coming. It wasn't an actual punctur, but rather the stem of the heavy duty tube slowly getting bent over & slit open by eyelet of the rim. I saw it happening & kept reminding myself to deflat & fix......but I kept putting it off. So at 9pm last night I paid the price.
I got to use my Co2 mini tanks for the 1st time & was very impressed with how fast they get you back on the road. I didn't even break a sweat.

Another unseasonably cold morning with lows in the upper 20s. I really struggled with how to dress this morning because the high is supposed to reach the mid-60s this afternoon -- a 35+ degree swing in temperatures. I opted to dress for the cold and I'm glad that I did, but I carried some lighter gloves to wear this afternoon as well as a lightweight skullcap and thinner baselayer. This has been a very tough commuting week for me with cold mornings and stiff headwinds and crosswinds every afternoon. I've also ridden more than 215 miles over the past week, so my legs have been tired. The wind has been the real kicker though; it just sucks the spirit out of you.

... and still winter, 28F but pretty clear and no wind. It's supposed to be low 50's this afternoon. I'm so tempted to take studded tires off but I know better. Time to start riding the road bike as soon as enough of the salt washes away. Is it bad to wish for rain?!

i rode past the gnarled and twisted wreckage of a multi-car accident on lake shore drive this morning. according the the tribune, 2 people were killed and 2 others seriously hurt.
just another reminder to be ever vigilant out on the road. we're all just trying to get to our jobs every morning, it certainly ain't worth a life. few things are.

I was waiting at a stoplight about a block from my office. The street is 3 lanes, 1 way. I'm in the far left lane, in the center of the lane, a few feet behind the car in front. I notice in my peripheral vision the bumper and hood of a car. It's a Honda Pilot just trying to nose into my space. I think I was more shocked than afraid.
EFF that. I turned and gave her the upturned hand "WTF?" sign. I couldn't tell if the driver was intentional or negligent, but either way it was pretty provocative. The light turned green and I went, all the time hoping she was just a clueless moron and not a sociopath who was now going to run me down in broad daylight on L Street.
I'm sitting at my desk now, so I guess we can conclude she was just a clueless moron.

About 30 Ds here in historic old Mays Landing NJ. You know.......is it just my mind palying tricks on me, but I could swear that my bike rides a lot smoother ever since I inflated my rear tire with Co2. Has anybody felt any difference than normal presserized air via bike pump?

Saturday commute, some kind of run/walk event on the mup today. I guess that's the "multi use" part. Don't those people know I use this path every day and they should get outta my way? At least it's warm, 43F

So rideing home this morning my rear tire that I had to change in a big hurry the other night, was somehow getting soft on me. I'm wondering if I just installed the tube wrong (lord knows its been ages since I had to flip a bike & change a tire). Well I pumped up the tube & checked for leaks......nothing. so I put it back in & pumped it back up with the foot peddle pump.
So far....so good. But here is the kicker. I rode all the way into work tonight......with no rear brake! LOL. If I would have had to use both breaks for an emergency stop, I would have been screwed.

A quiet ride in with a few snowflakes coming down, no wind, still and just above freezing.
Edit: I forgot to add...the quiet was much appreciated after a night of LOUD SNORING from my house guest.

Today could be the first day of the commuting season for me. Although I did do a couple of rides in through the winter, the forecast for the next 2 weeks (if you can believe the forecast for 14 days in the future) are temperatures hovering around freezing. Today, however, was different, -19C (-2F) with a wind chill of -27C (-17F, although I was riding into the wind so it should actually be colder).
I wore 2 pairs of tights and extra thick socks in my shoes and I was ok but it was the short route.
This afternoon and evening, they're calling for 5-10cm (2-4") of snow so tomorrow mornings ride in might be a bit of a challenge but it is forecast to be only -7C (19F) and a high of 0C (32F) and the rest of the week similar.

I couldn't miss today's commute because I'll be screwed the rest of the week, they forecast 20-25 cm of snow around here and , at 27.2 kms , I only commute on dry pavement otherwise I would take 2-3 hours one-way.
So I guess I'll have to take the van for the remainder of the week
This morning was great, nice sun, no wind and a cold -14 celcius

The tornado siren started howling just as I rode by, underneath the poll. Talk about a jolt. I was already trying to beat the storm bit that must have been worth at least another 2-3 mph.

Used the ride home as interval training. Tabatas with a backpack isn't optimal, but then if I only trained under perfect conditions, I'd never get any work in.

Wahoo. After nearly 12 months off, I started a new job today at a LBS. 30 miles round trip. It felt so nice to be commuting again. low 30's in the morning, mid 40's in the evening. Gotta get to bed to do it again tomorrow.
