I didn't know what to expect, but decided it was time for a long ride, for me that is. My longest previous ride was 16mi back in Jan and today I pedaled a whopping 27.3 miles in an 1 hr and 53 min. This is a good start, I think.

Another very windy day with 20+ mph winds. Still had a good 45 mile ride with the gang this morning.

Thous art braver then me, John_V. Anything over 6mph and I wimp out.

Last ride was Friday - inclement weather over the weekend. Wind (50mph gusts), rain, mountain snow. It's amazing how out-of-shape one gets in three days.
14.9 - 1:12 quick miles on the Allez. Cold and partly cloudy, but I got a ride in. Huzzah!

A magical 66deg today. Since I'm resting up for a brisk ride tomorrow, just had to go for a quick shot around town on the Cannondale Criterium after a shifter adjustment. Tshirt, shorts, baseball cap, Cannondale, speed. Ohhhhh yeah.

Still recovering from Saturday's 133 miler so I only got 57 miles in. Didn't realize the wind would be increasing and headed out with the 55mm rims on and almost lost the front twice with cross winds at 25+mph.

60 deg today awesome day for a ride. I think, or should I say hope, I can put those thermal bib tights away for the season. 22.1 miles of Zone 5 Ladder Intervals.

Rode my usual 12 mile route on a mild Tuesday evening after some fierce storms earlier today. Temp was only 70 but felt warmer with 97% humidity. Hardly any wind this afternoon, although I noticed wind damage and stuff overturned all along my ride, including a metal light pole knocked over and a traffic light twisted sideways.

Feeling a bit of a twinge in my right knee the past couple of rides. Probably ought to take it easier on starts from traffic lights and stop signs, and alternate between right and left legs for awhile. I've been feeling so much stronger I've tended to launch from the right leg harder than necessary from stops in traffic. Switching between cold and warm packs. It's not bad but I'd rather stay on top of it now than wait until it really hurts

finally hit 60 for the second day in a row, winter seems to have given up here. commuted to work in a spirited fashion, took a lunch ride, and then the long way home. 25 road miles playing in city traffic today, and it was great!

I don't have any winter hobbies, other than working on bikes. In Minnesota, that means three-to-four months in the shop. So this one and Gypsy Bleu were my projects this year. Don't know what I'm going to do next winter, both of these are keepers, and I'm out of space. I suppose I'll have to start hanging them from the ceiling...

Good ride today, however, I'm kinda wigged out cause I felt great wearing my summer jersey and it's the second week of March. What's July gonna be like...?

Unfortunately, it's the price we pay for having year round riding. If you don't ride in the wind, you don't get to ride. Fortunately, it shouldn't last too much longer.

The temps in the 80's and blue skies was offset by another day of string winds. Finally got a chance to get in a good solo ride. Riding with the gang is nice but I do enjoy my alone time on my rides. Ended up with a nice 37 mile ride.

Well they've been hyping 70deg for today but according to the Garmin it was 64deg with moderate wind. Still felt mighty fine to lose those layers and shoe covers.

The slow moving frontal system, that is dumping all the rain on Texas and Louisiana right now, is generating strong winds here, they have been stronger each day. I rode in them Monday and Tuesday, but when the steady state winds reached 28 mph here, I went to the bicycle maintenance mode, and also getting some home chores done. With my balance problems, and the hand strength issues riding in high winds wouldn't be too smart on my part. And, it looks like its going to be this way until possibly Saturday afternoon. Bites the big one, if you ask me, but no one is asking. Glad to see the ride reports from everyone here, take care, and ride safe.

Bill

We set a record high temperature for this date. Great for today's commute, probably not so great environmentally. With the sun setting later I've been riding the "higher-end" bikes with sew-up tires instead of the nice Bianchi with the hub dynamo for light. Monday and Tuesday was the Gazelle. Today was this sweet ride:

15/20mph winds with 25+mph gusts so I selected the 53/12 combo for a slow rolling while sitting and standing 30.5 miles.

Yes I did, during my break from my school bus (I go home around 9:00am and don't have to be back until around 1:00 or 1:15 at the latest). Anyway, I did a quick 14.25 miles in spite of the harsh wind gusts in an even 53:00 minutes for roughly 16 mph pace.

But things turned very scary on the return trip, as seen on my Facebook post:

"Wow, the wind gusts!!
During my break from my school bus, I took my old Fuji bike and went for a nice bicycle ride out to West Creek Pkwy and back. The wind was awful riding down Patterson, and it felt like I was only going about 10 mph, but on the way back I was flying along, so I guess it equalled out. 14.25 miles in an even 53 minutes for roughly 16 mph speed (+/- due to the wind). Now for the not-so-nice part: On the way back along Patterson, I had some {expletive** darn near run me off the road!! I mean, I was even wearing a bright, neon yellow, mesh bicycle safety vest!! Sorry for the extreme anger and foul language, but you can imagine... I screamed out "A**HOLE!!!" so loud it almost made my own ears ring!!! Virginia needs to do something to make motorists more aware of bicycle riders!! I mean, it was so close, it's a wonder his passengers side mirror didn't clip me!!!"

Started about an hour later than usual so I was already into strong winds when we started the ride. Was hoping to do 50 miles today but with three more days of riding and the winds at 22 mph with 28 mph gusts, I decided to stop at 39 miles. At 150#, I almost got knocked over several times with the side winds and at times we were being held down to riding speeds of 11-12 mph with the headwinds.

Rode with the guys again today. Winds weren't too bad until we got to the last half of the second loop. Kind of felt like yesterday's winds but the gusts weren't as consistent. Got in a good 36 miles for the day.

High winds yesterday (50mph gusts) so no ride. Winds predicted for today but Moderate until the afternoon.
I put the new Schwalbe Marathon Plus (35x406) tires on the Trike yesterday (what a job - broke a plastic tire tool - tough tires), swapped the rear for a Bontrager Hardcase Lite (32x622) I already had (about 70 miles on it) and threw all the Kenda tires away.

Today was one of those "senior moments rule" where I forget lots of things (forgot the pole and flags, sweatband for the helmet, wrist braces, etc.) When I stepped outside there were rain drops on the car but I loaded up the trike and drove to the bike path. 12.5 miles 1:03. A few spits from the sky and moderate wind but got the second ride of the year on the trike . Fun machine.
