It is a cool feature. It's better than having to pay attention where you're at on your route to know when your segment starts. I am not sure if the segment info transfers to Strava once you are done with your route. If you also sync with GC maybe the segment results will show there and then sync with with Strava, not sure. I won't be able to try it for another couple days because it's too damn hot here unless I ride in the middle of the night.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Perfect sense. I read that the Garmin firmware had a few bugs regarding segments and live feedback/syncing to website. Hopefully this latest firmware update solved that. I won't be going too crazy with segments until I get my feet wet first. I need to ease into this new hobby to ensure I don't injure my knee any further.

Looks like this will all become a moot point shortly. Garmin is releasing the 520 with live strava segments built in and firmware updates for the 510, 810, and 1000 are coming in September to do the same thing. No more fussing with Garmin segments needed.

...I'd call it having to wait a full business quarter for the feature to be pushed...and then another 3-6 months of after-the-fact patches to make it actually work well enough to want to use.

I'm looking forward to having real time Strava segments on my 1000.

They're on the verge of being made utterly irrelevant and in the dust been of history by smartphone apps. Garmin is a short while away from going the way of Blackberry, AOL, Myspace, RadioShack and others.

Still, as angry as I get with my Garmin, I still prefer it to phone apps for several reasons...and the Apple watch is a POS.
Nice! I just bought an Edge 510 though However I read the review and the comparison to other models, I don't think upgrading to the 520 from the 510 is more beneficial. Unless you want crapy maps and to have phone notifications pushed to your Garmin. I don't want phone distractions while I ride. Also since the rumor is most of the new features will be available for previous models I think keeping my new 510 is a smart choice. Thoughts?

A software update will make the new features available on the 510,810, and 1000 series.

The 520 won't be available for 3-5 weeks. So we're looking at maybe 2 months for the software update after the 520 is released. It's either pay $300 then or wait 2 months and save $300. I would rather wait for the update to allow Garmin to work out all the bugs. The 520 is basically a guinea pig for this major software update.

Im debating. I just bought mine 4 days ago, I could probably return it. The problem is I bought the bundle with all the sensors. I want to keep the sensors and use them on the 520. Can't return it without the sensors though. Also I got my 510 from Performance Bike 25% off during their mega sale. Came out to $330 including tax. I better just keep it and see how the new software performs.

good price.. I'd probably just keep it... you get the touchscreen after all. Just have to wait an extra 2 months for the firmware update past the 520 release.

You can keymash on the Garmin forums all you want about issues and no one is there listening.

This is making me think about upgrading from my 800 (I suppose that's the whole idea).

I've decided to wait for the software update for the 510. I suggest you do the same. Its funny how people asked for a few more software features like live Strava segments but then Garmin releases a whole new computer that has "live segments built in".
