Since the sidetopic of this thread seems to be using lights- ill add that if you dont use lights on the Trestle Full Moon rides- you are in for some serious hurt. Others are riding and need to see you.
Its been interesting seeing how many people ride without lights, but all seem to have been quiet solo rides vs riding amongst many others.

I reiterate---you need to use as much light as you need to ride safely. For some folks that is superbright headlights and blinkers---in the daytime.
On bright moonlit nights on open roads where I can see as well as I could with lights on on the tree-canopied, pitch-black portions ... I use enough light to operate safely. Why would I do anything less?

Had a great ride, pulled into the garage about midnight, 36 miles. Lots of wildlife on this ride, couple dozen deer (some running across the road about 40 feet in front of me), two raccoons right along me in the road. Saw all that before dark. Missed the tavern stop, place was closed at my far-point town. Made do with a vending machine break.
So I averaged 10 miles an hour total millage/total time. I putter around a lot on these rides, stopping at many points of interest (spent 5-10 minutes petting a stray cat outside the grain elevator)... I think I pace at about 14 mph when I am actually moving.

Righth. Not a time to go for speed records. More a time to enjoy what one can only see under those conditions.

Taking a break from prepping the Paramount and Giant for my MIDNIGHT MADNESS + Morning ride. Full moon happened a couple of hours ago so it will not be totally full tomorrow but very close and if the clouds are not covering it, I will occasionally turn off the lights depending on the roads I am riding. Will average 16mph to 17mph for 5 to 6 hours then take a break and head out again at 7:30AM to join the group from the LBS. Looking to ride 125 miles before calling it quits.
p.s. - and the tunes will be playing during the moonlit hours

Same. I think it would be fun to ride at night but theres nowhere safe to ride at night here. It's bad enough during the day time too with drunks trying to take me out on my bike. It happened the other day where some idiot intentionally ran on to the bike trail to cause a crash.

I love riding at night since there's very little traffic. Full moon or not. Did a 14 mile hike this past Friday with the full moon. It was a well groomed ranch road so no light needed in the few areas where there was no moon light. https://www.relive.cc/view/1029374711

This Saturday I'm planning on another Midnight Madness Ride and hoping for better weather so I can get 140/150 miles in. Working towards a 200 miler on July 8th two days before my 67th B-day.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter
I can't get the real flavor of a full moon ride close to home because it's too built up and there;s so much ambient light.
However, I've done numerous moonlight rides out in the country, and the full moon throws enough light that I can ride without my headlight. This was especially nice BITD because before LEDs bicycle lighting could be limited the single digit lumens anyway.
