I cannot say enough good stuff about it. It's well-built, and does the work of a few bags its size. Rode it through one rainstorm, and everything in all pockets stayed dry.

I bought the bag a month before I bought the bike. Ironically, it did not fit the bike I bought it for, but fits the FX 3 perfectly, so it's like I bought the bike to fit the bag.

The plastic "window" does allow the touchscreen on my phone to work, and protects it in the rain. It is not, however, very transparent in bright sunlight. I put a small slit in the bottom of the window to run a charger cable when I'm using the phone as a GPS on long rides, and the bag is just big enough to hold a battery charger, my wallet, and keys when the phone is in it. That small slit sits beloow the phone, so water doesn't actually get in there when it rains (experience tested). It is just big enough to hold a 5 inch screen phone, but just barely.

Really well put together bag, looks like it was made for the bike.

Need some help on an FX3.

I have a FX3 mens (or is it unisex) and I'd like a slightly different road bike -- one with drop bars. My wife started riding my FX3 instead of her 20 year old hybrid, and likes it a lot, but it's not a great fit for her.

I understand "women's" fit by Trek is supposed to be better for ladies, but is there anything I could do to this FX3 to alter it a bit? Like may a new stem to bring the handlebars in closer? She says her back feels a bit strained.

I could also sell this one and get a Womens FX3, but I wouldn't mind saving a little money if I can just adapt it a bit.

Womens' frames typically have shorter effective top tubes. Your wife's fit on your bike seems to be consistent with that. You can certainly get a shorter stem, and also a taller stem -- that will help bring the handlebar closer and raised up. You can move the saddle closer to the front of the bike on its rails (unless you've already done that). You can also replace the bars with those with more upsweep or backsweep to position the grips closer for her.

I was in the same situation last month when my wife rode my FX 7.4 and then wanted a new bike. After some test rides she fit better on a FX 7.3 womens in a slightly smaller size so no new bike for me. I wanted her to fit my bike, she could ride it, but it was just too big.

Yeah, this kind of stuff. Hadn't consider a higher stem or sweep handlebars. Her knees are in a good place I think, so I don't think moving the seat forward would help

Anyone successfully do something like this?

Yeah, lol. That's about it. If I buy her a new bike, I have to wait a year for my new one, but then again, I'd rather have times where she rides with me, so it's a trade-off

Yes, but my husband and I have similar standover on a bike. Lucky us, we don't need to adjust car seats. So we choose similar size bike frames. From there, I have a narrower handlebar, shorter adjustable stem, and a different seat. The biggest difference that we notice when riding each other's bike is the width of the handlebars.

Trek FX3's don't lose value all that quickly, if there's no damage you could probably sell it on Craigslist for $650-$700 and only lose a bit. Chalk it up to experience. That said, I was in a similar boat and decided to keep the FX3 and buy a used drop-bar road bike.

Yes, i quoted myself below

I am a huge fan of rumrunn6 's fx with fenders + rack and i had it on my mind for a while. so last week i ordered the bontrager deluxe rack (large) and NCS fenders for my fx 7.4 pictured below.

I dropped the bike off at a shop yesterday and im picking her up tomorrow. can't wait to see what she looks like

just for my own records and for everyones information: my fx is an XL which is the 22.5" frame. due to the frame size, i had to order the deluxe rack in Large (there are 2 sizes). this way the rack can be mounted level and not crooked like i've seen before. and for the fenders, they also come in 2 sizes. because i am not running stock tires (stock is 32mm, i am running 25mm), i also had to order the more narrower set of bontrager ncs fenders.

took a 10-mile ride yesterday (two rounds around my neighborhood) and i am very pleased with the results. average mph went from 12 to 14 and i was definitely faster on several portions of my route. as many others have noted, i definitely felt the 'sail' effect on these tires (25c) as opposed to the 32c tires. as you go faster, since you're upright, the air slows you down. i honestly never felt this on my 32c tires but maybe im also being more critical of it now...? anyway, im loving the ride and plan to put a few hundred miles on these new tires before the season is up. time will tell if these tires will hold up like the bullet proof 32c tires but im happy with the results thus far.

i like pictures so here are some pictures. edit: sorry the pics are a little blurry, i have no idea why! they look fine on my phone... or maybe it's my eyes?!

oh interesting! I just used an old rack I ripped off an old bike I sold, so I'll be real interested in your rack. please show pics of just the rack & how it's mounted & maybe a link to the exact product, please.

interesting also that you went narrow with tires when I went wider. so I'm interested as well in those fenders, but not for myself ... btw mine is also the XL, but I like your color!

re-scanning this thread & saw this post of yours. I just started experimenting with an older set of the same pedals in black (on my road bike). not that the color matters but those silver units are nice looking. got to ride my road bike on some hard packed dirt clipped in. wasn't too bad but I got a little concerened approaching some soft patches of sand. I have mine adjusted pretty loosely & using the multi-release "56" cleats. no falls yet!

Needs work, lots of dirt/dust. Looks like it spent most of it's life in a shed or garage. Also the rear wheel has a nice dent in it.
you ever fix that up?

i didn't go with anything fancy - just factory/default options for both fenders and racks from trek/bontrager. many fx bikes use the below fenders/rack. this is what i am having installed:

fenders: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/e...ender/p/09150/
rear rack: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/e...uxe-l/p/09592/

i ride mainly for fitness so i went with thinner tires and absolutely loved the feel of them on the road. the bike felt so much faster and i would pedal harder to keep up speed but now im not using it for fitness as much as i am pulling my kids trailer with it lol. i 100% of the time stay in my neighborhood where the roads are smooth (barely any potholes or damaged roads) so i am lucky i can ride thinner tires

an aside: and congrats rumrunn6 on your 20,000th post

Those pedals worked very well, but I wanted more aggressive pins so I switched over to Shimano Deore XT PD-T8000 pedals. I like those a lot. Same concept as the A530s, but better.

The hole in the top middle of the fork, where you have the fender screwed in would you know the size screw fits it or threading count on that hole.
Got my hands on a fender but don't have the right screw.
Any info would be helpful thanks

I believe the water bottle screws are M5. Start with that at the hardware store in stainless metric.

Yes it's threaded and it fit the same screw that holds the water bottle holder. I'll look for an M5 thanks

....a fast google turned up tons of M5
