For an 8" you really should look at a thru axle setup. As for rotors: Brakes don't care what brand they grab as long as it's clean and correctly sized (diameter wise)

ah crap, i was planning on using the same brakes for the 8" rotors as i'm using for the 6" that i have now, do ya mean i have change those out too? secondly, i don't know anything about axles either, are all thru axles 20mm? this was sounding like a really nice upgrade to make because it's relativly inexpensive but it sounds like i was wrong!?

Bikes: 2005 Kona Blast; 2005 Turner Flux, 2006 Felt F3C

So here it is, after lots of research and debate I settled on a 2005 Kona Blast and picked it up yesterday. I received great advice from the $500 thread in particular Raiyn.

In this pic it's in urban mode (my wife's hybrid is behind and my daughters' wagon is hooked up to my bike). Looking forward to the end of the spring thaw and the end of the muddy, muddy conditions. The MTB club I joined is still only doing road events.

I do intend to replace the wheel reflectors with reflective tape on the rim.

Bikes: '00 Specialized Hardrock

Well this os one of my first posts, so I guess I'll start off by posting a few pics of my bike. It's an almost stock '00 Specialized Hardrock, which I bought new almost 5 years ago. The only parts I've replaced so far are the shifters (grip shift had to go) brake levers (took a spill on the trail and managed to snap one of the old levers), and of course the grips. I also plan on throwing on some new tires, and rear derailer before the trails are rideable.

Re-read what I said in the earlier post. Where you got this idea that you have to swap out your calipers is beyond me. You WILL need the adapters for the 8" rotors but you won't need a new brake set.

Bikes: Kona Stuff J.R. Soon to be Specialized BigHit

The Kona i have is getting small for me so im riding my bros FSR XC in the mean time but since its an xc i dont jump it too much but its still great. I still have to say, that kona is pretty sweet for a kids bike it has marzocchi forks, disc brakes (shimano) and a bunch of other high quality stuff on it. I plan on getting a specialized bighit for my first big bike those things are amazing.

The word is spelled Y-O-U not "u"
Secondly: Who the heck are you to tell anyone what they need or don't need?

Is it just me, or does that bike look older than 5 years? Does Specialized still make frames like that? Man, I feel behind the times....

I won't lie, the pedals that come with the bike sucks. I had to buy new ones, and that pic was taken while I was putting on the new ones. I did it right out of the store, because me and a friend of mine were going riding right after that.

The bighit is easily the best bang for your buck when it comes to a full suspension freeride bike. Its really cheap for me because I get the price that the shop buys them for. But still, 1700 is very cheap for a bike like that.

big hits arent exaclty expencive, expecially if you are refering to the spec. and you dont have to have on him because he wants a better bike. you cant tell me your going to ride crappy bikes if you can get a better one. plus it gives him room to improve, so he doesnt hurt him self on a cheap bike
