Yes, for cross country that looks like an exelent bike. But looks like the fork tube could be cut about 3 inches?

Sometimes I like a more confortable ride, so I kept the option of raising the handle bar.
and thanks for your comments, TxRoadRunner

Don't tell me you'd ever consider running it at the very top? Cut off as much as you can possibly stand (for safety's sake).

Muddy Hookworms at that. Must be a real Kamikazi to ride that downhill in mud on those tires. That or the guy's a total poser and it's a staged pic

Bikes: '06 Giant STP1 coming on its way.

Not quite mine yet, but I'm getting one of these for my birthday next month:

Either that or an SPT2, which is the same frame but has HFX-9 XC brakes (6" rotors as opposed to 8"), slightly heavier components, and is about NZ$500 cheaper.

EDIT: Plus 2.5" tyres... the 2.3"s included don't have too great a tread pattern.

Not to say there wouldn't be injury if the tube were cut, but a 1.125 x 3" cylinder to the solar plexus, chin, or teeth is in this case an avoidable situation.

Hookworms are Maxxis line of tires, mostly an urban concrete\hardpack dirt tire.

That bike is a beast! And you guys are all saying he is a poser with hookworm tires, but what if he just rides hardpack and wants a bit smoother ride? I mean a downhill bike of that magnitude should probably have grippier tires, but what if he saves his good tires for races and rides around on those?
I was seriously considering buying some because I ride alot of pavement to hardpack, but I will wait.

please... a smoother ride... i doubt that you can feel any any roughness caused by tires with that much travel. these tires dont hook up in any dirt. unless you have a need to not turn. This is not a down hill bike, its a freeride bike, i could get better times on my hardtail. dont get me wrong, the tires are great, and you could get some for your bike, i almost bought some even. i really doubt he is racing dh with a bb height over a foot dual 24"s and a bike that plobably weighs over 50 lbs....

btw....nice argument n00b

Hardpack, pavement, go Holyrollers. Mucho better with practically no rolling resistance. It is a freeride bike, I agree, but I wouldnt build up a 12" travel freeride bike and put hookworms on it, nor would I build up a 12" freeride bike at all...

how come in every forum i ever go to there's the "wise" memebers who know everything (they wish) and everything they say must be gold cause they said it. let people dream of what they want, its their dream or their idea of whats cool. so he put hookworms on a bike that doesn't need em, maybe his riding situation constituted needing them, why does the "wise" one always jump to conclusions. so what if hes a poser, hes a happy poser, some people just don't know. I think its a nice bike, nicolai is a solid brand. Let people be, it takes less effort to ignore stupidity than to spend it on pointing out the obvious.

Such is the nature of Forums Sparky. It's possible that he might be doing an urban course, but the mud looks too gloppy to be street mud
