My E.13 Supercharger cracked at the mounting holes. I guess I overtightened it...though I used a torque wrench.

i have a sneaking suspicion that e13's hi performance poly carbonite resin super stuff is actually just plastic.

I was going to go with the Straitline alu one, but I saw that on this new e.13...there are inserts. (I really don't like the 12'oganal shape of the Straitline anyhoo.

I had a polycarb fsa bash that had metal inserts, it wasn't as thick as the e13 that I have now, so the fsa one was prolly more brakable but i never had any problems, But I had the fsa in a 32t, and now i've got the 36t e13 that came w/ my DSS

I broke at least four of the Supercharger E13/ Evil bashguards. I switched to the Nashguard by nashbar for $15 and its lasted for years.

Prolink was making the plastic smash like glass. All of them broke at the bolt holes.

I was about to chide you for bypassing the FSA one on Jenson's site until I opened the link. The main page has the image of the alloy(indestructible - - I know for a fact); but when you open the link, it's actually the polycarb model . Poops.

I don't bash my bash. It's just a chain retainer.

I hit my bash twice while goofing around today. it didn't break. took a good little chip out on a big step up -really bashed it- but it's fine.

I think it's becasue someone made it out of METAL.

It's not all roses having a metal bashguard; It may be stronger, but it's lighter. Oh and it costs less so choose your poison.

The poly carbonite is designed to crack like that instead of bending, thus bending the spider on the cranks. I'd sooner spend $60 to replace the cracked bash ring than to cough up $200 for a new crankset.

I've cracked one E13 bash guard 4 years ago and they took care of me, had a new one in my mail box a couple of days later and it's currently on the dmr. It's taken tons of hits to it and is still intact, will likely need to replace it soon.

1/8th alloy? how have you not bent that, those things bend so easy, the fsa/raceface alloy ones are 1/4 inch and won't bend, but they dig into logs easier instead of sliding over like the plastic ones, with the abuse i've seen e13bashes take on friends DH bikes I really think its just overdoing the bolts that cracks em

The one I cracked was due to moisture getting into the material during the manufacturing process.

I don't know. I guess I never really land on it full-force. Just glance off ot it. Altho I do it hard enough to take bits of metal off the guard here and there. I took a chance on it not knowing if it would be really strong enough to hold up but so far so good. Metal is pretty strong stuff!

I imagine that if I managed to seriosuly slam it into something it will break or bend. Almost every time I have hit it involved an urban step up or down that I didn't check clearance on. The sort of stuff I have broken chainrings on before I started using bash rings.
