Project Racer X complete

Came in just over 23.5 lbs. I think it will work nicely as my short travel bike

And what is up with all the non drive side pics around here lately? If you're gonna do that, at least move the crank so we can check out the lower pivot.

Well we got rain yesterday afternoon so railing and pining corners was out but the damn thing climbs, doesn't feel awkward on tight DH switchbacks. I'm waiting on a new fd so i'll get back later

+1

If you're not going to photo your bike from the drive side, don't even bother posting a pic. It's really annoying.

What size is the frame?

What is that wheelest?

Are cantilever brakes lighter than disc?

Is that crankset aluminum?

Right now my RacerX is about 26.6, and I don't know were else to cut weight, other than high-dollar wheels, which are not in the budget.

gonna be the straight man and set you up B. New york is a good place to be from!

Pappa wheelie the parts came off a 2005 XTC Comp 1. The wheelset is a mavic crossmax set. the XTC weighed 21 so i knew this would be a light build. I went with a ritchey headset that added some weight and the thomson seatpost is not as light as the Race Face Next carbon post on the hardtail but mostly the frame added a couple pounds. I'll post a link to the hardtail specs and you can see what the components are.

Here ya go Pappa

Honestly if your patient you can buy a used carbon bike pretty cheap if it's that old. No one wants to risk buying used carbon. But if your in it for the parts, you could get the whole bike cheaper than a new set of wheels.

I tried to by a Scott Spark LTD, for that exact purpose, but I could not get the price down far enough for it to make sense.

Here is my (Large) RacerX. I bought it used about a year ago, and it was about 33 pounds then. Now it is down to 26.6.

Here is what I have swapped out:

Wheelset
Was Shimano Mountain Sports, now Mavic 717 with XT hubs;
(new off ebay, $187)

Bars
Was FSA "Gravity", now Titan carbon; (new off ebay, $60)

Fork
Was RockShox Tora, now Fox RL 32; (local craigslist, $200)

Cranks
Was TruVativ FireX, now SRAM carbon (3x9); (take off, bought off ebay, $180)

Cassette
Was dunno, now SRAM PG-990; (ebay, $64)

Seat post
Was FSA, now Easton carbon; (used off ebay, $22)

Seat
Was WTB SomeThingOrOther, now Specialized Toupe'; (new, LBS, $80)

(Removed 6.4 pounds for $793 (gross), and sold my take-off stuff for about $200, so net $593.)

running Michelin Dry 2 front and back, with Stans, even though they are not tubeless tires.

you dropped a lot of weight for a reasonable amount! my wheelset was not disc compatable so i was looking at 2004-2006/7 stuff (needed Brake bosses on the frame).
I saw a Giant nrs carbon at that time sell for 750. but didn't analize the parts group on it. Also didn't contact the seller on weight cause, well, i was looking fora frame.
mine is the small size, 16.5/17?

Good one Brent!
