Full Disclosure: I'm from South Carolina (the state that first seceded), I can trace my ancestors back to both sides of the conflict (Up North it's called the Civil War, Down South it's either the War Between the States, or if they're particularly miffed, the War of Northern Aggression), and I still have NEVER met anyone who flies the Stars&Bars to "honor their heritage" who isn't racist.

I'm not saying they don't exist, I've just never met them...

I am strictly small time, Vol. We are talking roughly $1000/year.

It's interesting because I understand that for many southerners the stars/bars is NOT intended to be racist, it's a heritage/pride thing....but for many minorities it is INTERPRETED as a sign of bigotry/intolerance/etc.

And both sides are right.

I like it when they fly the flag from the back of a pickup truck.

Most of my coworkers took the rest of the week off.
I'm thinking of napping.

In other news, my SIL brought my niece home last night from the hospital after being treated for pneumonia, and now it looks like she's headed back there with my nephew for the same thing.

Bugger.

People like to think that. I explain to people though that calling the rebel flag a "heritage/pride" thing is like repping the swastika and calling it a symbol of economic hope..

but people believe that! Don't you know that you have to get all the economic power away from the Jews? Henry Ford wrote a book about it!

I have had a beer can thrown at me one time. And I was run off the road one time (during the Addicton TT). Both were red pickups with stars/bars license plate covers.

You are absolutely correct. And without going into all of the reasons for the war, let's just say it wasn't primarily about ending slavery. However, the flag flown by the side fighting to preserve the CSA and thus continue slavery certainly would seem to qualify as an offensive item.

And I've known a lot of Southerners (and some who weren't...what's up with that) who insist they display the Confederate flags as a heritage/pride thing. Once I got to know them, I found there were other, not so nice, reasons for it. I've also met people who assumed that since I was from SC, I was a redneck, former slave owning racist. At a party once, I even heard someone call people from SC "genetically inbred morons".

I'll admit to sometimes being a redneck, and I'll stipulate that I've said racist things in my past (growing up in that environment didn't encourage "understanding", but I've worked hard to make my kids color-blind), but my family was never wealthy enough to own another human being. As far as the genetically inbred moron thing, I'm not sure if any of my ancestors ever did the nasty with another family member so I can categorically deny the inbred part of the insult...and whether I'm a moron or not is open for interpretation!

of course. i hate when they turn perfectly good tv shows from the 70s into corny movies for kids to watch who have no idea of the original shows.
