The place I checked out yesterday was about 230 square feet, I think? Kitchenette, tiny bathroom, room for a bed, a small desk and maybe a flatscreen TV. I could probably squeeze the bike in with some creative furniture arrangements, but the elevator is small and the hallways are narrow, it would really be a pain to get it in and out every day. I asked the landlord if there was a place that I could lock the bike up downstairs, like a boiler room, and he said that wasn't allowed, it was either outside or in the apartment :/.

That was just one place, I'm sure atleast one of the other places I'm checking out will be more bike-friendly, but I still think I would vastly prefer a folder (if they're at all comfy to me) for apartment living.

If you don't mind the east end, check in with Keith to see if there are any apartments coming up in his building complex. Dirt cheap if a little rough around the edges. I was paying $650 for a small two bedroom.

I just saw this on their site:

"We can now accept your Canadian credit card and will be happy to ship to any U.S. address. We cannot ship directly to Canadian addresses due to brand restrictions." They do offer options, but it's basically ship to somewhere in the US around the border and go pick it up or send it via a company that will do it for you.

I had my stuff shipped to Buffalo. If you know someone in the area it is a great deal with the free shipping and exchange rate right now. I got my frame, wheels and headset for $260 Canadian.

soooo have a court date tomorrow morning. i'm fighting a ticket i got during the bike blitz (aka the bike "safety" blitz). i realised belatedly (my hands are a bit full these days) that i should do some research to prepare my case. can anyone here give my quick references to cases regarding clipping-in at red lights? preferably canadian sources? i searched for track-stands, but that's not entirely relevant, since i *had* put my foot down. i moved left to allow a van to make a right hand turn, and used the momentum to mount my pedals without proceeding into the crosswalk/intersection until the light turned green.

i know i have to really be careful how i word my argument or the prosecutor is likely to jump down my throat. i'm going to try giving info only as they question me, but in case the judge doesn't immediately throw it out of cout, i ought to be prepared with some precident examples. any thoughts would be appreciated, either here or in PM. thanks.

note: i don't have a driver's licence, never been charged or testified, and didn't receive any other tickets at the time as my bike is up to code. /angel

What was the ticket for? One time I got caught running the light for the crosswalk between the Bay & Eaton's Centre, I just took it to Edward St. and they knocked a $190 red light violation down to a ~$20 lane change violation, so it's not always worth taking it all the way to court.

https://canlii.org/en/index.php allows you to search for cases.

I would search for the highway traffic act section you were charged with, and keywords. That might find you some cases.

"proceed before green" [144 (18)]... i didn't want to plead guilty to a lesser charge as it's bogus and i tried 3 times - unsucessfully - to see a prosecutor.

ps. thanks herald, that's what i was looking for - i thought you'd come through!

Glad to help. I did a search of "s. 144 (18)" with the quotes and came up with 12 cases. I didn't read any of them.

There is a site called Quicklaw which is more useful, but you have to pay for. CanLii is a nice resource for case law and statutes.

Brad, I tried to put a track cog and lockring on that wheel you built for me. I think I have the wrong lockring for that hub, since it will tighten by hand but whne I use the spanner tool thing it gets lose again. Do you know if you have a lockring for that hub at your shop?

Bikes: A bunch

Hey guys, long time no post, how's it going?

We've just opened a new shop in Liberty Village, Liberty Street Cyclery. Still getting everything set up and getting more product in, but come on by and check it out. We're primarily focused on repairs, and we can do it all, wheel building, fork overhauls, brake bleeds etc. Mostly Be selling mid to high end stuff, we can get a lot of neat brands like, Salsa, Surly, IRO, Soma, Moots, Independent Fabrication, Santa Cruz, Industry Nine, Turner, All City, you name it, we can most likely get it.

Doing an Industry Nine group buy if you want some sweet wheels for a good price, call for details.

We've got some good pricing on Brooks saddles, call for details.

If you've got any questions just ask or give us a call.

Great link, thanks. I added AND "bicycle" to that search and of the 4 remaining hits, I think only one involved the accused riding a bicycle. Unfortunately it was this one: riding without headlights, a sawed-off 12 gauge, and cocaine. What was that kid thinking.

Seriously, I would think the fact that you yielded your place in line for the convenience of a fellow motorist should carry some weight with the judge. I know I've been "reminded" to yield in that same situation many a time.

Good luck!

i neglected to reply to this! happy belated baby birthday! at 4 months, i imagine that orin is well on his way to 16lbs. for me/us it's going to be a call on his neck and body control. i really hope we don't have to wait until 12 months, since then it will mean waiting until next spring and i don't know if i can handle waiting that long. ps. i like the "caution!" helmet, brad likes the "mohawk" one...

yeah, i didn't find anything relevant to my case.

i f'ed up on several account in the trial, including forgetting to get a disclosure, forgetting to ask about/refer to the video evidence, and forgetting to mention the van. so when it came down to a matter of he said (red light - which at the very least he should have said amber when i clipped in), she said (green light), the judge ruled against me. fine was dropped from 180 to 100, but i'm still considered "guilty". no luck for me. grrrr.

future note for reference: when trackstanding at a light you can be considered "proceeding", even if you're going UP vs FORWARD.
