FWIW, we've tried this at bikechian before. The variation in chain tension doesn't inspire confidence in the non-chain drop dept.

Man it's sticky out there. Enviro Can says "SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH". I don't doubt it with this warm humid weather and the cold front moving in for tomorrow. Gonna be quite a show methinks. My gf asked me this morning whether the rain kept me awake last night, to which I said "there was rain?" She's forgetting that I once slept through the smoke detector going off in our room (due to a fault somewhere else in the house).

I'm not sure what qualifies as "high end" but I've got a flight deck on my road bike and a specialized speedzone elite on my mountain bike.

The flight deck is OK, the hood buttons are neat but more of a gimmick as I don't tend to switch menus while actually riding. Also the gear indicator is a nice feature. Overall though I wouldn't say it's worth the money (around 200 by the time you get set up) the cadence feature on this is actually a "virtual" cadence based on your speed and gearing. So technically if you were to coast down a big hill in first it would show you were running 300rpm cadence. Doesn't really matter anyhow as it doesn't track average cadence.

As much as I dislike Specialized flash and marketing, I have to say some of their stuff is pretty nice (like the sweet S-works M4 FS XC rig I'm tuning up at the moment) I also count that computer among their good stuff. It's been really reliable, the menus and functions are great and it cost half what the shimano did. It also has a real cadence feature (which I don't use 'cause I don't like the extra sensor/wire) and a backlight, both of which are not included on the shimano. Also- countdown timer for time or distance intervals and better lap timing if you're into that.

Yeah.. I'm actually liking the high end Polar stuff because you can add the power bits later as an add on if you want. I don't see myself ever getting serious enough to really warrant something like that, but at least it's there if I want it. Plus I can easily just buy another speed sensor for the Polar and then use it on multiple bikes. I can't really do that with say a Powertap (at least, not for 26" vs. 700c wheels). Plus yeah, the initial cost of a Powertap system is going to preclude me.. Although they do turn up used occasionally.

On Polar - I've been using a lower end polar HRM (F6.. no bike-related goodies involved) to keep an eye on my maxHR/avgHR/zones while out on training/group rides.. it does the job, but the amount of data collected for transfer is disappointing (i.e. only max, average, and time spent in one zone). Also - I would recommend avoiding anything that uses soniclink for data transfer.. it's a bit unreliable in windows (where it's intended to work), and I suffered quite a bit of annoyance trying to get it working in linux.

So broadway cycles has failed me.

over 3 weeks ago I ordered through them a rear avid short 4 brake and a kalloy uno OS riser stem. They said it would be a few days. I called them after a few days, and they say it came in. I come in the next day and they admit that they haven't even ordered it. They say they will order it that day and it should be in soon. I call a week later, they say both parts are on their way. I call today and they say that the stem is on backorder and that norco doesn't even have the brake. I gave them my phone number on 3 occasions and asked them to call me about any delays. I even paid in advance so I have to go and get a refund now.

The moral of the story is, does anyone know who stocks IRD stems in the city? I need 25-30 degrees of rise, 1 1/8" steer clamp, 31.8 OS bar clamp. I also need a replacement avid shorty brake (number doesn't matter, as I am reusing the hardware from my shorty 6)
