I think I need to get at least a full (imperial) century under my belt before I consider a double.
Slow buildup from metric centuries in the months prior to hairshirt and then like 2-3 weeks before do the TNT where you do back to back centuries after resting a night.

It's tough. But I really don't see spending 10 hours on my bike to do the hairshirt fun. But then again that's why it's called the hairshirt.

Can't even tell if that's a massive ripoff or not. Sure looks like it though.

every time i've done it i enjoy the challange. as for preparation i would say slowly building up your weekly kms so that you're comfortable doing 200km at a pace you can maintain (say 25km/hr). i did a few ride with the randonneurs to get ready at that seemed to work just fine. other than that hydrate the week before and get plenty of rest. so no, it's probably not something you can just jump on your bike and do, like the ride for heart. a double century takes some training or you're in for a world or hurt.

I started watching the habits of bike cops some time ago and to this day I have yet to see one actually stop at a stop sign when the coast was clear to proceed.

From what I understand these fines are moderately easy to beat - I picked up a $187 fine for running a red last year and a law student friend of mine is trying to help me beat it so I'll test her theory when my court date comes up.

The funny thing is when the cops try to tell you that they can take points of your license for running reds / stops on your bike. You'd figure that the ones to lay down the law would know a thing or two about it... but apparently not.

I saw a couple hiding behind a car across Dundas and Jones. I headfaked them before I headed north, but it would have been fun to watch them. Unless they start towing from bike lanes, courier companies don't care, just the cost of doing business. That would kind of be nice to see, sort of like the 4 o'clock round up in the downtown core. The tow-truck just wheels up and bang, you're gone. Hope your drycleaning doesn't get wrinkled in the cab, jackass.

If you gave the cop a fake name for the ticket... how would he know?

Yeah, no sense even trying to enlighten them. You'll just get a baton up the ass. Points/other stuff is easily defeatable in court once you tell them you were driving a bicycle not a motor vehicle.

Totally - there is a checkbox on the ticket that says "motor vehicle involved" and apparently sometimes the cops will check this off in hopes that people will just go pay the ticket and accept the point loss without thinking about it. When I got my ticket I made good and sure that this box was left empty.

I actually had an incident where some lady yelled out of her car that she was a LEO. Should've took her up on that offer and asked for her badge. So close to a "impersonating a police officer" charge.

By the waterfront trail/residential street route, or the direct route along lakeshore ave?

Lake shore seems like a fairly direct route but if one knows of nice waterfront trail...I all ears... I'm not familiar with rollin' out there but don't expect alot of traffic heading out there. hour and a half ride? I'm peeking at it in google earth I think the park to the west is where they want to watch from but I'll need to confirm that.

"they" are kids? It's only maybe 15kms from parkdale along the waterfront... so 1.5 hours is lots depending on travel speed (and your starting point). How fast do they typically ride?

I agree that the park will probably have the best view, although it'll be crowded!

My apologies, 16kms.

https://www.stridemaps.com/maps/view/93

The route I mapped shows a detour from my usual route at the end 'cause I'm assuming the road that swoops down by the plant (lakeshore promenade) will likely be closed. Up until that point though, I know the route well as I've rode it tons of times.

If you have work stuff or whatever that you don't want to carry there and back feel free to leave it at my place (It's on the way to the footbridge if you're going across queen)

If we meet at 6 at the Palais Royale (Roncy footbridge) that would give tons of time to get there including getting lost dealing with crowds etc.

Sweet I'd love to drop some work stuff off as I'd still like to bag the camera. Are you near the end of Queen, I hear there's a good cuppa to be had down there. Perfect. PM comin' with digits.
