that jersey has quite a pedigree...it's about time they have a jersey for that (the tour has the lantern rouge). i think the worst rider in the giro still blows the average rider out of the water so i'd wear it with pride...

I'm really liking it so far. The people I work with are super nice which is the best part for sure. It's a pretty fun environment. The bikes are really nice and I'll probably get one because it's such a good deal/investment. On the other hand, it has helped me to think a little more practically about bikes. I want another steel track bike, with a nice tubeset, and geometry of my choosing. I think I'd be happy with that. I don't give a crap about the stiffest/lightest blah blah blah. Who cares. Seriously. Is all of that worth $6000? I don't think so. As I said I'm only considering getting one because I would get it for considerably less than that.

i'm sure we're all in shape enough at some point to keep up with the pace of the doughnut ride, it's the hellish take-no-prisoners pack riding that scares me. i can't believe we're talking about the doughnut ride. we're such roadie scum! i'm shaving my legs later; who's in?
I'm far from being roadie scum on my clapped out old Centurion, but I'm definitely in for the donut ride - my only concern is holding the hammer down enough to keep up. I think I'm fairly quick compared to the average person on a bike - but that's not who rides the donut and I'm probably not that fast for long stretches - I rode in a peleton on the ride for heart for a while and had trouble keeping pace after a while, though I was on platforms and not in super shape at the time I still dropped off the pack. I rode back from Niagara Falls (100 miles almost to the dot on my route) the first time in 8.5 hours including lots of breaks, which isn't too bad, but it's no 23+mph constant (I ride more like around 19-21mph mostly as I keep in the same gear all the time). I'll be pushing more on the Hairshirt, which I've not done before.
I'm down for the challenge though
Oh and I've only had my legs shaved due to compromised sobriety and girls who thought it'd be funny... yeah, it wasn't and it's not.
As for drafting, I prefer to pull - I hate being behind people too close in the open country, let alone the city - I'm not used to riding in close quarters, so I'm fine with doing some work out front. Drafting unannounced hasn't really happened to me yet, but I've pulled a few buddies through town (places like across the Bloor/Danforth viaduct) which is cool by me. I ride inconsistent hours, and most of the riders I encounter are either way slower or don't seem to ride the same route for long enough, as I stick to the major arteries for my near-daily cross-town riding (Bloor/Danforth being the main drag). Drafting doesn't seem to make much sense to me in town unless it's hella windy, that's about the only thing that'll make me tuck in to the drops, I mostly ride on my hoods/tops.
Edit, the donut is more like 100km? Hmm, well I rode to Cambridge which is about 100kms, I got there in about 4 hours on platforms with a backpack and a few breaks along the way - what's the usual donut ride time? (Desperately trying to see if I'm able to save face and do this thing

Had a guy last night on a minor street in the east end (at least I was right by TEGH in case
) cut a left turn right in front of me... He stopped (in the middle of his turn/the intersection) when I threw my arms up, I ducked left to avoid him and yelled "WTF AM I? CHOPPED &*&^ing LIVER?" and added some other incoherent F-bombs noticing my headlight on full, my hi-vis vest was on and visible, etc. etc. All that risk to MY life for his 10 seconds. A-holes FTL.

The worst is drivers that think they can play "chicken" when the cyclist has the right of way. This happens to me on a daily basis when I come down Christie from St. Clair; drivers that want to head south on Christie off side roads stop with > 50% of the car past the stop sign, and then proceed to start-stop merge, even though they see cyclists coming down Christie. Its pretty easy to hit 40km/h going down that hill, and if some ass that wants to merge makes the mistake of thinking you're going 15km/h or feels that you will stop to let them pass, you're pretty much dead. And they don't give a $hit.
Good story: I was heading east on Bloor, just before Spadina at around 8:40 AM. Lots of drivers need to merge to the right so they can get south on Spadina; I know this, so when I see a car in the left lane signal to get over and turn south on Spadina, I take the whole right lane and give this guy room to merge. Next thing, I hear a horn behind me and this cabbie pulls up next to me and starts telling me how, "it's my right to take the lane and ride where I want," but, "please don't." I tried to explain why I took the lane: to let someone in front of me merge, but this ****** wasn't listening. I gave up, gave him the finger and proceeded on my way. Cabbies are dirtbags. 100%.

Heh yeah, drivers that misjudge our speed is a real problem too - I suspect that's what happened last night to me and the guy who tried to cut in front. I don't care guys do that, just don't do it close - I'm on the road to try and impact traffic as little as I can - so if they can make the turn without waiting for me and there's room - I'm cool with that.
