Mine was a yellow Bianchi MTB in the 80's. Then upgraded it when the first straight fork came out.

My memorable bikes were a fixed solid-wheeled bike which was my first, then I had a Raleigh Mag Burner, a couple of girl-style cruisers (internal 3 speed hubs) and then later a Raleigh 10-speed road bike as a youngun, then went to an X-mart MTB when I was around 15 that lasted me through 'til I left the UK and I left it there.
I think by definition, the Raleigh bikes were fairly decent, but I've yet to really have a 'good' bike. If it wasn't for the perma-frame damage, my Centurion would be reasonable but until my IRO is built I'm in klunker-ville.

I still have the first real bike that I ever bought, a 1988 GT Karakoram. Before that, I had a Talisman (a long defunct Canuck brand) that I bought from Broadway cycle up at Bloor/Dufferin. I had a coupon from a Toronto cycling mag that gave me $50 off of the Talisman but the owner wouldn't honour it until I practically screamed bloody murder in front of his store. Heheh, what a bastid.
Here is the GT as it looks now, great snow bike:

Nice. I was eyeing all those panasonic/leica cameras when I bought my P&S. Did you pick one up? I'd love to check it out sometime if you did.
My first good bike was a early/mid 90s Giant ATX-780. I still had it until about 3 years ago actually, but I loaned it to a coworker when their bike got stolen. Long story short I haven't seen it since.

I got an email this morning from a design agency I'm tag-teaming a website with and the designer is a guy I met this past season through 'cross racing. Small world.

dang. sorry to hear op.
the hell is wrong with Canada post! They won't even allow me to send a wheelset to the states because it exceeds their size limitations!?
And purolator wants $130 to ship it.
ah. game over
I'm pretty sure they just changed their policies and size limitations because I just shipped out an entire bike last summer.
