Really?! We all made so much fun of that on Friday night. What a load of eye-rollingly pretentious bs. I totally burst out laughing when they showed him all aggro and playing drums. Cheese-a-rama. Plus it was all build-up and no substance. They barely showed any actual track racing. The only cool part, imo, was a couple quick bits of him hammering at about 150rpm on rollers.

I'm bummed I didn't get to see the Roubaix doc though. Hopefully I'll get another chance to see it. I still want to see "Cobbles, Baby!" too.

2wheelsgood: I've got 3 frames here that are all a smallish size (19" max) that are being donated to CBN/thrown out and you're welcome to any/all of them.

Schwinn Voyaguer rigid MTB has cranks/BB/headset and both deraillers. No bars/wheels (26" needed) - can part-out what's left on the Dyno, though.

Dyno Victory MTB hardtail - everything bar tyres/tubes/accessories - this is a heavy old Canadian Tire bike, reason I'm tossing it out is because it saw some of last winter and never recovered - though the frame is OK, the fork is frozen and the deraillers are shot/corroded despite being stored indoors.

Bianchi old lowend steel frame - I've tried to sell this, but it's just not worth anything I guess - I rode it as a winter fixed gear until I sheered the splines on the cranks (it was never intended to ever take that amount of torque I guess ) and is a nice ride. No deraillers, no bars but BB/HS (with original fork) and the one crank arm is still on it. It's also a dog awful turd-brown colour.

PM me if you want any of it - I've asked Geoff from CBN if he can come cargo-bike it all away should they want it - so it's all up for grabs.

Yep. Track racing is all about over-the-top intensity. The guys don't look anything like typical cyclists and I think the mentality is different. As far as pretentious, I didn't get that vibe, but whatever. Basing the narration off a comic book of a movie didn't seem high brow to begin with. And I don't think the short was about the race itself ... it was all about the lead-up to it.

i really really REALLY appreciate all of the offers for loaner bikes but it won't be necessary as i have already been dreaming up my new build that'll be underway shortly. i guess that's the only silver lining to this grey cloud, a good reason for a fancy new bike.

need some advice: so if anyone remembers the abandoned bike i found, i posted it on craigslist a couple times but no one's claimed it. it's still sitting in my apartment, and i don't want to give it to the cops because they just auction it off (the proceeds don't appear to go to charity, which is the real sticking point). so. what should i do with it? donate to cbn? bike pirates? bike chain?

Sell it and use the money to take your significant other out for dinner.

so last night i stayed with a friend in ottawa after the show.

this girl he was with came into the appartment with her queen west wanna be friend.
the first thing this girl says is "who's got the posenger bag?"

we were all confused.

she points at my chrome, sitting in the corner which ive been using to keep my laptop and cables in one place on tour.

she then goes on a big rant about hipsters who are copying messenger style and how much she hates people biting the messenger style.

she tells me she uses her chrome for work.

i ask if she rides bikes, and she says no, that she hates bikes, but loves her chrome.

and then she didnt want to discuss bikes, or anything and left.

people are weird.

I had someone go on and on and on about "fixies" the other day. I asked her if she rode a track frame and she said "No, I ride a fixie". I got the impression that she thought they were two different things, which, I suppose they are nowadays. I guess a "fixie" is a conversion? I don't know, I didn't ask her. People are weird.

Sounds like two conversations that would be difficult to endure.

Ugh. If she had a legitimate claim to messenger culture than I could almost, dimly, see a reason for her argument, but sucks to her if she's wearing a messenger bag without biking (let alone actually messenger...ing) and wants to argue merit/authenticity.

I got my first flat of the season yesterday on my way to work. Must have blown it in the last 100m because I never felt any loss of pressure. Didn't notice it until I was taking one of my regular looks out back to make sure my bike is still there (I work in a restaurant and we use the back as a smoke area/bike parking lot, and it's in a semi open alley), and I saw my front was flat.
My gf was in the neighbourhood so I quick released the front tire and she bopped down to curbside and the guys there were nice enough to fix the whole thing for her in two seconds without labour charges! And all on a Saturday when their house policy is not to fix flats. Big word up to curbside and of course to the lady.
Definitely loving it.

You must have a good lookin' girlfriend. Same way my wife gets pulled over for speeding and then somehow always gets let go with a warning. I've even been in the car with her when it happened twice. Never fails.

I'm geting tired of that term. It's a fixed gear or fix gear bike. Blah whatever. At least they are riding bikes, not suv's.
