Check your chain tension. I find a lot of people on their first builds go waaaaay too tight. I definitely did at first, a little slack is a good thing and will likely make your bike run a little quieter and won't likely wear down your components as quickly. At the same time, too much slack and you're dropping chains and you don't want that either! Finding the perfect balance may take a little time but you'll know when you've found it.

I was in there with my buddy Sean and I think Mark and Rob were there as well at the time when a posse of bike cops 6-8 deep all casually rolled down Augusta the wrong way... Way to see a good example!

Legendary... Rennick hits a 5-er!
I've seen a few of the crazy "let's ride anywhere" kids around, not too much - the 'regular' commuters along College are challenging enough at times though
Just heard a kid got struck pretty hard yesterday because he was cornering on the wrong side of the road
I wish parents would at least say "stay on the sidewalk, keep your helmet ON" if they can't be bothered to teach proper road safety to their kids... Life is so precious!
Skipped the DSR stuff last night, wasn't feeling fantastic once I got home, and the wind kinda bummed me... decided just to sleep
I'll definitely come in on Saturday, Mike - the creaking *might* be my pedal, I'm worried in case it's because I had a curb strike on my crank the other day and something went wrong that I've not seen, the chainring is tight on the spider, as it was found loose last Friday when I was checking it on the train (that was scary to find
)
I really need to practice re-adjusting pedal position before curb hopping... sometimes I forget in the heat of the moment and fumble my way through. Either way, my black IRO cranks now have lovely metallic scratches on the ends of them after being in the Don on Saturday and the last curb strike
My drivetrain isn't super quiet, as I run a 1/8" chain on my 3/32" cogs, but it works fine - and is still pretty quiet compared to regular bikes. Some slack is definitely not a bad thing, but I've had it slack enough to throw my chain a few times already when hopping tracks, etc. - so you definitely do learn that sweet spot - I'm still learning

Unfortunately.
Edit: On second thought, I just looked at the map link from the story.. this looks like a case of a kid enjoying himself + tooling around on a quiet/fairly closed road, and probably getting caught by a driver taking the bend too fast.

Hrm, are the pitch of the chain and cog the same? I think that may have a lot to do with it. My Miche wheelset has a Dura Ace cog with the 3/32 pitch and it makes more noise because the chain is 1/8------or do I have that backwards? One is thicker than the other and it can create noise, that is my point

where do you find those professional photos that were taken on the coarse at the 24 Hour race of the weekend?

A light beating, however, wouldn't be bad. It might send the message to other bike thieves that they are going to get ****ed up if they mess with people's bikes - on the other hand, it might just prompt them to start carrying bigger knives.

i was thinking more along the lines of a bike with some sort of transmitter on it so we can follow it. over the course of several days we'll torment the thief mentally. none of this loose axle nuts nonsense, i'm talking about getting inside someone's head.

Stupid parents irritate the hell out of me.Good idea on the Sharpie, that'll work nicely I bet... though aren't battle wounds/scars hardcore? Or is that just for human skin and not componentry?

I've almost wanted someone to take my Rob Roy so I can watch them get pitched off it trying to coast, but at the end of the day, I'd prefer not to have it potentially gone - thievery sucks, vigilantism sounds cool but I dunno if it'd be so effective, there are a lot of people in town that just don't give a crap about anything and I'd rather not get involved in a confrontation if I can help it.

I'm far too impatient for that. A henious spray adhesive and a feather pillow works fine by me. Besides I suspect most bike thefts are by people without much of a head to get into.

THAT goes in the EFFIN' GOOD IDEA file.
HolyMoly I've done 130k in the last two days..which is equal roughly to two weeks of work/home commuting. Frankly I'm bagged but I feel good. Not much spark left in my legs right now.
