Obsessing over weight
So I know there is a whole other forum devoted to this, but I never really thought I had a problem. I recnetly changed saddles (just a couple days ago) for comfort and all I can think about is the weight difference, 105 grams. I know its nothing, but I find myself searching for a carbon railed version of the current saddle. The one I'm using, Selle SMP Dynamic, is a loaner so I'm going to have to purchase one. I'm having trouble finding one with carbon rails and they are $130 more to save 60 grams. And to top it off I don't really think it will make a difference in ride quality.
I feel like I've got a disease.

Shave, clip your toe nails and finger nails, and get a hair cut. Skip dessert. Problem solved in one day.

Once you know which saddle is comfortable for you, it is easy to buy one online. You should be able to find the one you want on Amazon. But $2/g is a little pricey for weight savings. On the other hand, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." Good luck.

Eventually we will see people with only three fingers per hand and no toes ... and we will say "Ah, a serious cyclist."

I would be more worried whether my rear end likes the saddle or not . But just skip breakfast tomorrow, gotta be worth 3.7 ounces.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with shaving grams, it all adds up.
As to the replies of "lose body weight", I have a counter to that. Change that tired mantra to increase power. Anybody can lose weight, look at the drugged up runway models for instance. Gaining power is the secret. Sorry for the derail.

Losing fatty body weight is great, but why not do both?

$130 to save 60 grams does not sound very cost effective. On the other hand if it is not an issue money-wise and you want the nicer one with the carbon rails then just go for it.

125 grams, $125 Merek full carbon fleabay. The most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden.
They flex, no padding necessary.

I've been going through some "weight consciousness" lately. Bought a VERY light helmet to compensate for the slightly heavier pedals I bought. Light-ish bottle cage, small, lighter pump...
Eh, sure it all counts.
But I think I'm done with this "nickle & diming". After my tires wear out, I might go for some lighter wheels and tires.

In addition to being lighter,
the carbon rails are much more flexible, so there is actually a large difference (benefit) in ride quality.
OTOH, the 7mm x 9mm rails will not fit all seat posts,
and a well fitting SMP saddle is worth a weight penalty.
Sorry about your disease- it's progressive,
but generally not fatal.
I have drilled out plastic tire levers to save a few grams.

It's Jan and this is a cycling forum. With the title obsessing over weight I figured this was about food.

So if I decide to feed the addiction, does anyone know where to get a deal on a carbon rail SMP Dynamic?

In fact, the less powerful you are, the more benefit you will receive from lighter bike (because you spend more time climbing than faster riders do: in other words, if riding the lighter bike saves 1%, then the guy who formerly took 45min to climb the mountain will save more time than the guy who climbs it in 30 minutes).
