Speaking of overpriced crap, ever since I trolled WhyFi about that giant green 500mm lens, I'm seeing ads for Adorama on this site trying to get me to buy $26,000 lenses.
When a camera lens is double the price of my car, I'm probably not in the market. |

Buy a more expensive car. Then, the lens will look like a better value.

Doesn't belong on any race bike, except a TT rig.

The CeramicSpeed stuff? If so, that was part of what I was thinking even on the TT bike. I don't want to be constantly worried about breaking it. Not that I plan on crashing the TT bike. (But then again, who ever plans on crashing?) I have so many cooks in my TT kitchen that I'm reluctant to change anything. Coach, spouse and fitter all have their say in any changes. I'm past the point where I have changes to make that everyone agrees upon. Now inevitably I make some change suggested by one of the players in my game, only to have an other one disappointed by the change in some way. And since I don't really know at the level of this tiny little details, sometimes it just causes me stress. No change is easier. And cheaper. And probably fine. But I should go in and see fitter soon. He is supposed to have aero road testing up and running by May. So maybe its time to talk about getting that scheduled finally. |
Thank God, the cavalry has finally arrived!

I could have worded my post better. The dude who is our "go to guy" thread starter got banned. I figured Indy would be amused.
Fake news? Really? |

I'm really getting sick of cancer. I had a prostatectomy in 2003, 41 radiation treatments and anti-hormone treatment in 2009, and now have been informed that my PSA is doubling every 6 months and have anti-hormone therapy to look forward to in the next 3-4 years. I'll be 66 soon and the treatments are generally good for 10 years so I could be 80 at that point when the cancer starts growing again. I can deal with that mentally but I'm not looking forward to the hormone therapy. It was terrible last time. |
My kid's Walter Payton jersey arrived yesterday. During a discussion about the Bears-Broncos preseason game at Soldier Field we've decided to go to, his Broncos mom and his Bears dad asked which team he would root for.

Haha he now does this spontaneously, thinks this stuff up on his own. While I am the one saying, "Wut? That expensive..." Apparently last time we saw coach, the two of them had this big extensive conversation about how to make the TT bike better. I am so not interested in the mechanical aspect of bikes that I guess I wasn't paying any attention. I don't remember talking about most of it. But he made a list and has been ticking things off on it, item by item. It's really weird to see a bike on a stand that doesn't freewheel anymore because there's not enough friction to engage it (so the pedals keep turning on their own). |

This is exactly my philosophy right now.
My TT bike was actually an inexpensive bike. As such, it came with crappy bars, which I knew going in and figured "no problem, I'll just replace them". So I got some affordable but better bars and they were just too flimsy, I couldn't really apply that much leverage to them without the aerobar extensions moving. Ok now they need to be replaced, better ask some advice this time. Coach gives me a list of good options and I find this usually-expensive set of bars used at The Racery for a great price. Sweet! A bargain. I buy them. I don't realize they don't come with the stem, which you really need to take advantage of these bars' excellent aerodynamics. Now I've got to buy the stem too and I can't find that used. Full price and without it the bars are slow. Ok, I pony up for the stem and now my bars are no bargain. A month later, I get all that on the bike, take it in to the fitter to get him to help me with arm position and the first thing he says to me is: OMG, I hate these bars. Great. (He doesn't hate the aerodynamics of the bars, that part is excellent. He hates their minimal adjustability. His feeling is that if you're going to make a high-end expensive bar, you're obligated to make it possible for people to easily tweak their position.) Anyway that is a typical occurrence. Fitter says I should try the speedplay aero pedals, coach says OMG no, hate em. And so it goes, on into the night.... |

A bunch of the local riders are sponsored by CS around here, so you actually see them around A LOT. I don't know anyone willing to pay full price for it, though. Those that have them love them, though.

So they just announced the 2018 world champ course. It looks like they REALLY don't want Sagan to threepeat:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C1zxhLiW8AMX3W9.jpg Will probably be a very interesting race to watch, in any event. Looks ****ing brutal. |

Fun fact- the Norwegian fans in Richmond for the 2015 race were by far the most fun group of Euros to venture to our little city. They had lots of flags, they made their own Norwegian hill, gave out beers to anyone who bothered to smile at them, generally had an awesome time. And they didn't even have a rider in contention. |

It's prostate-specific antigens. Theoretically, my PSA should be 0 with no prostate. When my cancer came back in 2009, it was 1.1 which is considered low but not for a person without a prostate. My PSA has gone from 0.02 to 0.08 to 0.11 to 0.22 over the last two years. My urologist said we probably won't wait till 1.0 this time before starting treatments. I have an appointment with both my urologist and oncologist in May and will get more info and maybe a better timeline.
