Uh oh.
Heading to the LBS to test ride some MTB. Not sure if I want a 29 or 27.5+. There's a fun fire road that runs in the ridge line of the mountain almost in my back yard. |

Can you post your dilemma in the MTB forum with a poll? :innocent:
Would that be trouble? I tried a cdale trail 3. Haven't Bunny hopped on platform pedals in decades. Was fun. Their 27.5+ wasn't built up, so I'll go back. It's a 1x with big fat tires, which is appealing. But it would be useless on the road. |

The good thing about a plus bike is that you can run either 29 or 27.5+ wheels. I'm about to test out some almost 29+ on mine in the next week or two. But to be honest, I think any MTB is probably super overkill for just a fire road. That's probably gravel bike territory. |

It's there, but they put a control up on the left bar that you can use if you climb. The cannondale slate is probably one hell of a bike for gravel and fire roads, but they're crazy expensive, too. I know some people that ride a Salsa Cutthroat that haul ass on the road on them, too. |

I can believe it. I wouldn't be surprised if this one could top that, she's really fast, loves to run, and she's younger.

I tried the C'dale bad habit. It was not great. Very long chainstays lead to a dead feeling bike, and the BB is really low on that one, too. Also, they have some issues with the intermediate link on the rear suspension cracking. But mainly, riding it, it was no bueno climbing, even obvious in a parking lot. You had to switch the rear into lockout mode to get rid of the bobbing. There are much better suspension designs out there that don't require that. The Salsa split pivot is the best I've ridden with respect to that, with second place going to the Pivot cycles system. I've heard the Santa Cruz is pretty good, too, but haven't ridden one myself yet.

You're probably right about the gravel bike, but I think I'll have an easier time getting my family to try on a 29 or 27.5+ Makes me wonder how far I could go on my Allez with 28 tires. Maybe I could find some with tread. |

Cool! Where the hell is that? |
Went to the pool with the kids and decided to check out the swimming tracking on the vivoactive hr+. Hit the pool and out immediately went black screen. Still water coming out of it now hours later. Still dead. Wtf Garmin... supposed to be good to 50 meters not die in a 9 foot pool! I mean it's literally advertised as a triathlon watch!

You gotta show me around there. My boss is wanting to go ride out there too.
How was the trail? Any technical bits? Nothing real technical, a little overgrown / could be better maintained. Few real nice views along the way - just a nice little pond shot and then that neat overhead old-school railroad. It'll work in a pinch, but it ain't like the one over your end. |

Real tight and windy as if someone was trying to 'game' the mileage marker when publishing the trail.

It'll work in a pinch, but it ain't no Northshore, (that's the name of the one we hit yea?). There are quite a few twisty type trails around. More common the closer you get to city centers, as the green areas get kinda small. I did Harry Moss in Dallas, and it was definitely like that, but it did have a couple of technical spots. Not many places like Northshore around, for sure. |

Dunkins is much better than McD's or Starbucks IMO. My goto coffee away from the house, but at home I'm currently experimenting with the varietal offerings of LaVazza.
Anyway, yes, the new Dunkins stuff is pretty mellow, not bold on flavor, but predictably mellow and tasty. As mentioned, Starbux has a burnt taste. It will do in a pinch but that's the way that I feel about McD's too. |
