Actually blood tests are used prior to the time when ultrasound will be reliable. My younger daughter tells us she is expecting our first male grandchild after only about 10 weeks. That kid is going to be miserable with 4 older female sisters and cousins.

That's really not on your mind after winning a medal.

Breaking news! I am getting a smart phone (iPhone) from my employer. Who'd a thunk it? Maybe I will be able to post a few photos during my tour next month.

Interesting (really). But, you do know I meant the "carrying high vs carrying low" sort of thing, right?

Speaking of fun facts, I've got one for you. Did you ever wonder why a gyro sandwich is called that?
I was watching a guy teetering across the street this morning and mentioned to my wife that it looked like a spinning top meandering on a table. The top idea made me think of gyroscopes in general, and then being hungry, I moved on to thoughts of gyros, the food. Suddenly I realized why they are called gyros. It occurred to me that gyro in gyroscope must mean "spinning". Actually it means more like "turning". And gyros are made of meat off a rotisserie, i.e. turning on a spit. Voila. Now that is a fun fact. Are you ready for more of the same. It turns out that all the different names for the same dish across the eastern Mediterranean and mid-East like shawarma and doner also mean or are derived from the local language words for turn or spin. You're welcome. |

I knew that when I was like 12 or something. |

And I'm pretty sure po-boy does not have anything to do with spinning. Maybe frying, but not spinning.

I registered for the State TT yesterday.
When you do that, you can see who else is registered. So far, two other women besides me. Registrations close Wed at midnight. I don't know either of the other two women, but of course I look them up on USAC. One of them beat me by two minutes last Nov at Santiago Cyn, the race I just did this past Sat. Yikes. Of course I Strava stalk her and she lets anyone follow her. Now I can see her data. Timing error last Nov! She really only beat me by one minute. Cool, cause I since shaved one minute off my time on that TT. Next up, I look at her bike and data. No power meter. Does not ride with HR. And she has one bike, does crits and road races, so we know its a road bike with clip-on aerobars. Equipment advantage: Heathpack. Looking up her race results, she has most success in climbing races. Ha, the State TT is totally flat. I look at her data for last Nov's Santiago Cyn TT and compare it to mine from Sat. She beat me by one minute up the climbing part. I beat her by one min on the flat/descending part. Physiology: its a draw. She's done a lot of races, she's experienced. Mostly crits and road races, so she's probably a better bike handler than me. Not that many TTs that I can find. No 40K TTs. The State TT is 40K. Experience: she has more overall, I have more TT experience. So at first glance I thought: "No way am I beating someone who had two minutes on me in an 11 mi TT last Nov." Now I am not so sure... :) |
