Get the eTap, then there's only the rear brake cable that's internal. Also it builds up to #14.35 on their site like that with the carbon wheels. All for the low low price of $9600.

No way I'm paying that for something without disc brakes.

Funny. No way I would pay that for something WITH disc brakes.

Seriously, I looked it up too. The online info is mostly about their bikes. I'm interested in what the company is about. But a simple explanation would be appreciated. Basically, who are these people? What do they have to do with Guru?

Allied Cycle Works launches made-in-America carbon bikes - BikeRadar USA

They bought out Guru's IP and materials and moved everything to Arkansas.

For the weight thing, I know it could be built up much lighter. I was just pointing out that a realistic build for me would still be around 16 lbs. My current Trek is probably just under 20, so that is comparatively light.

That does provide credibility.

"Trsnrtr- how's your wife doing, if you don't mind sharing?"

The poor woman is doing fine after her breast surgery but right before her surgery, she had a CT scan and it showed an incidental finding of lesions on her liver so she had two more tests done and the doctors are worried enough that she is going to have a liver biopsy in a couple weeks. Because of that, they've postponed her radiation and hormone treatments that were supposed to start a week ago. On the good side, she rode 60 miles yesterday. :thumb:

Our house is sort of in turmoil because after our horrendous tandem accident last August, I had numerous testing in intensive care which has resulted in what seems like an interminable bunch of follow-up CTs, ultrasounds and MRIs. My wife is in the same way. I think we are single-handedly keeping the medical profession afloat. Anyway, I had a suspicious CT scan result of the brain last Fall and finally had a follow-up MRI last week. It appears that I have some bad things going on inside my head and now have to see a neurologist.

Growing old is not for sissies. We've cancelled five bike tours this spring and early summer all due to testing and results thereof.

:(

At least the bad things in there shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone.

I know a guy named Ganesh. I wonder if that is where his name came from. :foo:

At least they found "something" in there. I always assumed my skull was just a hollow orb to hang a hat on. :innocent:

Oh man. If you think your wife should perhaps seek help at M. D. Anderson in Houston, you can count on me to help out as much as I can. I am so hoping all these issues turn out to be much less serious than they are sounding.

It is common for Hindus to have names meaning or referring to their gods as in the case of Ranganathan.

They, the docs, tell us that the odds are in her favor that everything is OK but they're concerned enough to do a biopsy. She has lesions on her spleen, too, but they want to check her liver first.

Dunno, I know Gandhi lived in Africa for a time. I think Indians are pretty widespread these days.

Trainsnorter, sending good thoughts your way.

Wow we are all a mess these days...

Which makes me uneasy that we haven't heard from LAJ in a few days...

After doing MTB I kinda want a road bike that'll do 30-35mm tires, disc brakes, carbon, and ultegra or better. I know the Canyon endurance bike is something close to that.. wondering what other offerings are out there.

I think that my ass has gotten used to how cush the mountain is that now I just want bigger tires on the roadie. Plus, roads are tough in my immediate area.. pot holes, etc. Pack holding capability would be nice too, but not looking for a full on drop bar mountain bike.

Also, stay woke and make backups, everyone - big ransomware attack going on. Backing up my own stuff and then taking the NAS offline for a while.

Most anything marketed as a gravel/adventure bike, though they'll usually have clearance for even bigger tires, so I don't know if that's a negative or not in your book (I can fit 40s on my bike, and I do think that it looks kinda funny with 25s). I think that most of the "modern" road disc bikes are going to top out somewhere around 28 to 30, and most of those are going to be in the endurance category; if you want to fit anything wider, you're looking at gravel/adventure or CX.

It's just hard to think of that as a road bike. I started on 19 mm tires.
