Burn something.

A solution elegant in its simplicity.

Would likely freak people out too. Psychological warfare. ;)

They don't appear to, in my experience. In this culture now jeans are almost always acceptable as "dress up". Back then they were not, they were purely utilitarian. If you wore jeans out you had nothing else to wear.

Exactly, whereas all they have to do is pay my airfare and hotel. So wasteful.

The last time I listened to WMMR was at my job in the mail room circa 1985. I did not control the radio dial.

Meh. I wear Lululemon Pace Breaker shorts most days... not like I'm trying to impress anyone.

So I said to Mr H, "hey can you see if you can find me a small windsock?" I am thinking we could hang it from the car antenna or something.

He never got back to me on that, so yesterday I ask him if he ever got the windsock. I'm thinking I'll be needing to dig up a ribbon.

That leads to the big reveal:

Haha. Weather station mounted on the bike work stand. He got it for Christmas but never mounted it. :)

Now to see if I can actually get him to drive to various key points on the course and hold up a sign giving me wind speed and direction.

I know. Insanity. Love it though.

This is awesome.

I don't know. I'm just not a consistent rider at all due to my heart. I have really good days, and really bad days, and I never know what its going to be at any given time. I could probably go just as fast on bad days, but it's just too risky for me, so I do a lot of that "resting while pedalling" crap.

I haven't had the new wheels long enough to know for sure, but so far they feel great. There are days when I can haul ass on the 27+, too. You just have to know the trails and get into a zone. I tend to be fastest when I'm thinking about boring crap like how I'm going to protest my property taxes, etc... But there's nothing quite like flying on a mountain bike through the woods. Closest thing to the speeder chase in return of the jedi there is.

Looks like the trails will be closed tomorrow, but I have to birthday party all day with my 4 year old. Maybe we can ride Sunday.

WhyFi 05-19-17 08:43 PM

Ugh, MFin' kids these days.

I was cutting the grass, since it's supposed to rain all weekend, when a tennis ball comes whizzing over my shoulder and clunks in to the fence. Look across the street and there's a 8-10 young men strolling down the block, a couple of them clearly keeping an eye on me. I pick up the ball and start walking after them to have a little talk. They stroll along brazenly until I pick up my pace, at which time they break and run. I go back home and finish mowing the lawn.

45 minutes later, there's a flurry of pounding on my door. I look outside and see 3 or 4 kids crossing back over the busy street. Put my shoes on to go have a talk with them. All but one runs before I'm out the door. The last guy, 6' tall, saunters along with a baseball bat in hand, occasionally looking back to check on me. I go talk with him. He turns, points the bat at me and tells me to stay back. "Gimme a ****ing break - what the hell is wrong with you and your friends? Got nothing better to do than try to assault and harass someone mowing the lawn?"

"Wasn't me, blah, blah"
"No, of course not - you know who it was, though. So, who was it?"
"I'm not going to rat them out blah, blah, blah. I came back to talk to you to smooth things over, blah, blah, blah"
"By pounding the **** out of my door and pointing a bat at me? Fine, you can tell the police."
"Wait - you're really calling the police?"
"Would you rather the alternative?"

After waiting for an incredibly long time, 20 minutes or so, the police come and give the kid the easy way or the hard way choice. He chooses the easy way and rats out all his friends. One cop, while talking to the kid, gives me a free pass, "you know - you made some dumb choices and you're lucky. I look at you, you're taller than me, and you're just as tall as him [gesturing to me]. Most people aren't going to look at you and think, 'hmmmm - he's about 16.' Nope, they're going to look at you, assume you're a college kid and think, 'man-on-man' and they're gonna give it to you, 'specially if you're pointing a bat at them. You're lucky this guy doesn't have a temper."

Damn kids.

Where I came from you had to be fly when you went out BITD, unlike today. And there was nothing fly-er than an alpaca sweater with mohair slacks, Texas heat be damned.

PS: 2.8-litre turbo diesel head. Simpler than a V6. Actually, with all the mechanical crap I have to do at work (repairs and maintenance on farm machinery including tractors and JD Gators), I should be getting a technician's certification. And all I did was sign up to be a worker in a cherry orchard.

Dang. I didn't know it was a coalburner! That's OK, I won't hold it against you. :)
