I got my bike back yesterday and got it dirty. Will ride again tonight. After a week off, my HR was crazy high last night.

Interested to see how I'll do at tonight's ride after a weekend of recreation and not healthy food.

Answer: Harbormaster's Office. Now she waltzs right in to say Hai. And receive her tribute. I will try to get a pic if I can.

Friends of ours sail the loop from the Gulf and up the East Coast and they told us that their dog remembers all of the places that do this. Must be a common thread with harbormasters.

.... and as soon as I get back on the bike, I've got what feels like a pinched C8 root nerve (pain right at the base of the left shoulder blade, gets worse with neck movement, a little better with a hand on my head). Ugh.

Fun club ride today. We had 14 riders, which is just about right for a group ride. Wet roads mean bike now has lovely crust/patina of grit. Did I miss anything while I was riding?

Yes. No. Maybe.

Idyllic riding conditions here. I'm wearing a base layer and a jacket. I think the air here is less dense than down south. One more day of it.

Doc says it's a muscle thing, not necessarily a nerve thing. Gave me a muscle relaxer horse pill thing. Maybe I can ride again tonight after all.

Also saw some calcification thing on the xray. Not on the spine, but right next to it. No idea what that's about, but he's having a radiologist look at it and will let me know if it's anything. Google doesn't turn up much.

I have more good health news. I saw a neurologist for advanced chronic microvascular ischemic changes of the white matter of the brain far greater than my age. Sounds scary, doesn't it?

Well, yes, my brain showed a lot of these damaged spots from the MRI but the neurologist said they could just as easily be from the 235,000 miles of bike riding (read falling and crashing) and the few concussions and broken helmets along the way. None of there damage is in areas of any concern. Also, no history of balance issues, headaches, or memory trouble.

As a bonus, he pointed out the cross section of my carotid arteries and how nice and clean they were which was excellent for my age. :thumb:

So, no recommendations except monitor my BP and keep seeing my GP every 6 months and... lose a few pounds*.

*why does every one of my doctors say that?

I'll be right there with you at the doctor's - got my insurance kicking in - gotta go have someone look at this MRI.

I agree. I've been fairly busy but that's no excuse in this day and age with cell phone internet access.

I'll try to do better.:o

Off to check Strava to see how many miles I have to ride tonight to stay ahead of VeloVole.

If I ride a 39 year old bike with non-indexed down tube shifters with a group on carbon frames and wheels, do I get to count double miles?

No.

Can I get a second opinion and not the one that says that I'm ugly or fat, either.

Group ride miles count half of solo miles, so it's a wash.

Could it be because a few sounds nicer than 30? ;)

Seriously, glad to hear the good news.

Yeah, it's like every news article about health drops that as if it's new information, and then they also give the advice of "in order to do this, eat less fatty foods and move more", as if that just settles it.
