Now you just need someone to bring by a 2L of sprite so you can make sangria. Mmmm... my mom makes the best sangria, btw.

These weren't sangria wines.

You need special wine for sangria?

Just a wine that you don't care about throwing into a fruit punch. :)

It's such a tiny simple little thing to get wrong... but every. single. one. of. my. worst. crashes. were this.

Practice with 1 legged drills helps with gaining uphill momentum when you have to clip in on poor traction grades and only manage to get 1 foot clipped in.

Social media accelerates and decentralizes communication, so yes.

An equally interesting collateral question: has 'social media' reversed the order of influence over linguistic change between 'speech' and 'writing'?

What's the order now? And when was it established?

UPDATE: I may have had a mini-breakthrough this week. :bday:

Slightly altering my tongue position seems to help with the high notes.

Look out Maynard Ferguson.

Heathpack 06-02-17 11:40 PM

Went up the killer hill yet again. This time I was less ****zy about it and got to the top only 5 bpm over LTHR.

Progress!

Then we saw three Catalina Island foxes. Not bad, considering there are only like 1000 of em in the world.

Oh. And of course Mr & Mrs KOM got the KOM & QOM in the killer hill. Just scooted right up like there weren't nothing to it!

I know I live in a little city on an island at the arse end of Australia, but honestly, you would think bike shops here would be a little more elightened than some of their staff have shown Machka recently.

We've run out of Hammer Enduralytes (my bad) and were looking for something similar. Tried the supermarkets in the supplements and fitness food sections. Nope. Then Machka went to health food shops and pharmacies. Nope again, although there was the token offering of plain salt (NaCl only) tablets. Even the fitness food shop on the ground floor of the building where she works. Nope yet again.

Now surely the LBS would have at least some knowledge of electrolyte pills. No. She was directed in one shop to Nunn tablets, which I suppose qualify, but cost some ridiculous amount like $2.50 per tab, and they have to be dissolved in water before consuming. She was even told by one LBS staffer that electrolyte pills don't even exist.

Sheesh. We'll be picking up a few bottles worth in Canada to bring back with us, and ordering some more Enduralytes by mail order from Hammer Nutrition.

I had good results using Skratch recently when that was all the support guys had.

Yeah, I know Heathpack is a fan of Skratch. And we even had some packets which were provided by an LBS for sponsorship for one of the Audax LD rides we organised a couple of years ago.

The capsules are so convenient, though... easy to carry, easy to swallow with no taste, and no need to mix.

That's a great picturel. I sure like the mottled coat on them. Carbonfibresque in a way.

I'm officially a pro mechanic now. Send liquor.

Now all you've done is reinforced the stereotype that bike shop mechanics are either pisspots or jarheads.

Likely that is about all the average LBS mechanic can do, too.

The bar is low.

Rowan 06-03-17 03:37 AM

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. rjones28 might be one...

Phew,.. got that in just in time. But then, we have to regard rjones28 as being above average, judging by the bikes he has been building up lately.

Stupid rain is stupid. Gonna ride anyway.

Just beer, cocktails and glasses of wine.

It's a Sram Red 22 mini group and will go on my pretty bike. Mrs. Herbie (MoF) immediately pointed out that this would make that bike incompatible with all of my wheel sets and that this was not to be a justification to purchase more group sets or wheels.

She is wise... if a bit of a buzzkill.

Tell her you are in touch with a cheap, local builder.

I would love to do some sailing or even motorboating on Lake Champlain. That is a beautiful area.

We have a couple of timeshares and you can trade them for other timeshares. In England, there are some canal boats that you can trade for. So I have this vision: trade into a canal boat and rent a mountain bike. Then I can ride along the canal boat and into town and maybe into some hills or forests and then still meet Mr H at the next lock to help him get through. And pub lunches every day. :)

It's going to be an interesting morning. Short-staffed. One on Army Reserve duty, one providing race support for a triathlon, and one providing mechanical support for a women's racing clinic. Oh. And another one training out at Lake Placid. It'll be me and one other guy for most of the day. Saturdays are usually pretty busy.
