Related note: the newly-minted 6-year-old and I will be taking sailing lessons this summer - really looking forward to it. He's gotta take some swim lessons over the next few weeks and then we start towards the end of the month.

I know I live in a little city on an island at the arse end of Australia, but honestly, you would think bike shops here would be a little more elightened than some of their staff have shown Machka recently.
We've run out of Hammer Enduralytes (my bad) and were looking for something similar. Tried the supermarkets in the supplements and fitness food sections. Nope. Then Machka went to health food shops and pharmacies. Nope again, although there was the token offering of plain salt (NaCl only) tablets. Even the fitness food shop on the ground floor of the building where she works. Nope yet again. Now surely the LBS would have at least some knowledge of electrolyte pills. No. She was directed in one shop to Nunn tablets, which I suppose qualify, but cost some ridiculous amount like $2.50 per tab, and they have to be dissolved in water before consuming. She was even told by one LBS staffer that electrolyte pills don't even exist. Sheesh. We'll be picking up a few bottles worth in Canada to bring back with us, and ordering some more Enduralytes by mail order from Hammer Nutrition. |
I fell into the hammock last night, after 3 weeks in beds, and was asleep in an instant. Guess where I am at the moment.

Will do.
I doubt I will ride today even though conditions are as ideal as they get this time of the year. My hammock and I are spending the day getting re-acquainted. |
I need to figure out how to do it. Flikr and Bf continue to be uncooperative.

I did a slow-ish, fasted ride this morning. Am I skinnier and more fat-adapted, now?

Good club ride. Was sprinkly the first hour but then was fine. We did a combined A/A- ride, and agreed to split up naturally after an hour or so. I was subbing for the usual A- leader, so although I was feeling strong I stayed with the slower group and pulled their asses most of the way. We ended up with 60 miles and an average of 18MPH. The faster group apparently came in at 19.5. Was 100% fun for all.

It is amazing to watch the granddaughters swimming from age 18 months. The two-year old just passed her fully dressed floatation test. Times have really changed.

Home again, home again, jiggity-jog. Aaaahhh. Feels good.

So there are some landscapers working on our yard today. They are from Ecuador. I came home from my ride and chatted with them for a minute in Espaņol. One of them asked if I was from Colombia, I don't know if it was my bicycle or my accent that made her ask...

That's the funny thing about learning Spanish as a second language: which Spanish do you want to learn? Who do you want to talk to? I took intensive Spanish lessons from a Colombian woman to prepare me for some business dealings in Venezuela, which was already a bit odd. But I knew that the accents and some vocabulary were very particular to the area where the teacher grew up. In a city like Houston, you never know how a Spanish word you use will be received by the person you are speaking to depending upon their background.

It is hard to use from an idevice but works fine with a desktop or laptop. |
