Has young Doge even been up Guanella? He's going to like it, in actuality. I was surprised that it ended above tree line, and it is likely right up his alley.

I guessed you picked up that was where we are going. No.

He has a ride (car) from COS to Georgetown Sunday AM. Mom and I are arriving Sat night. I'm taking bike and we'll meet about 8:15 for a 9:00 ride. So less than ideal.
I don't know what the effort will be. We just want to test out the new setup. He's too heavy now for a real record and has been training for the U23 RR. With school, military - just making excuses, but it is difficult to get the miles in, or be at leanest skinniest upper body weight when they have you doing pull-ups and chin-ups all the time. Not that that isn't better overall anyway, it is IMO, just he's carrying 5-10 lbs more than a pure climber.

Starts out steep, then basically messes around at 5% or so in the middle, with some actual downhill spots, then it gets serious for the last bit. I'm sure you've both looked at the profile. I am so not a climber, but for some reason, this one is appealing. I suck at it, but I have to keep working on it, and the training is awesome.

He's going to rock it, and I look forward to seeing his results. Record or not, I do think it'll be a time to remember for him.

I have not looked at the profile.
I have 3 ring choices - 44,46,48 - one ring, I can change. At 1,000 to 6,000ft he can hammer a 50T at 7% - see the video http://www.bikeforums.net/19657921-post768.html. I now have a 46T on front thinking for 14,000'. Maybe I'll do the 48T - hard one. He has an 11-29 on the rear.

Love the European Cathedrals, they have certain timeless ambience. Made sure to see several in Germany and England. Never been to Italy, so haven't seen any there. Never thought about Cathedrals and Spain, seems like gap in my thinking.

:(

BMC in the US seems to keep very tight control. I was extremely lucky a few years back and found the exact one I wanted at end of the year with a fabulous discount, but with a 6 hour drive to pick up.

Prior to that I nearly purchased in Europe as the cost difference between the US and European was an even more fabulous discount (even after duties). I was travelling through London frequently at the time and almost purchased one from Evans - they advertised having a shop near Gatwick and they would pay your Taxi fare.

Hmm, you friends with Datlas? I hear he needs a bike to rent......

Edit: May also want to check out RA cycles, although no test or LBS support.

At the end, when approaching 10-11K, it's also nice and steep. At the start it's steep too, but there's some actual oxygen there, in comparison. The (flat) part, he'll be able to motor.

I've only done 1 before actually, and it was a fast group so it went quickly. This would probably take me at least an hour longer but I know I'm physically capable, more a matter of mental fortitude. And fueling, of course. I'm thinking 30-40 gels? Might just fill a bidon with gel.

On my 77 mile ride Monday I didn't have any food. Bet I could do a century on a flattish route without much headwind.

It's not downhill. I think that's just some rider, and not the actual race.

A friend did the GMSR in Vermont a couple years ago, his teammate ended up winning. One of the stages had a sprint finish right at the base of a long downhill, I think the winner was over 50. That's insanity.

This and others - see video are by Antoni Gaudí https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoni_Gaud%C3%AD. If you liked Dr Seuss, you'll like Gaudí.
These are cuts (but maybe of interest to this topic thread) from a trip New Years 2015, which was really of my kid riding his bike - so I cut this out. The ending clips are up at his house.

Good luck to Baby Doge. No pressure but remind him that he is expected to save cycling. ;)

I already told you he wouldn't. He's 19. You have to be 24 to save cycling.
Brandon may.

Oh right. I forgot.

Brandon's TT position in that race report pic: Hot. That hand position looks fast.

Speaking of TT position, I'm aero testing tomorrow night at the velodrome in Carson. Haha this is what I consider to be a fun Saturday night. :)

OMG I've had a crazy week. All week long, my cases were more 5X more complex than they seemed to be at first glance.

And I had to work 5 days. In a row. I don't know how people do that routinely. Brutal.

Next week the new interns start. Two work dinners, one for the outgoing interns and one with the new corporation. Work dinners don't end until late, so I find the exhausting. Even the free alcohol is not worth it.

New interns are annoying because they are forever stopping in doorways. Haha I tell them in orientation not to act like blood clots to the hospital's flow.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe I could get myself some sweet corporate management job that doesn't entail as much clinical time, I could ride my bikes more. :) My thinking is someone should organize all this clinical research material, one we join the new corporation, we'll be part of a huge organization, sitting on a goldmine of clinical material. From a clinical research perspective.

I think I heard they finally finished building it. Is that true?

It wasn't finished when I was there in 2010. By the looks of the building cranes in the pic, doesn't look like it is yet.

Here is a pic of the Christmas side or as I like to call it, the melted side. The pic below that is of the bullfight arena. They no longer have bullfights.
