I'm sure that you could look through the specs on their website and get a good idea of why the care differs. I would say 50:50 with the laptop which is set up like a desktop. As for my Kindle Fire pad, I just use it for reading. Maybe also when traveling light instead of taking the laptop. It is very capable, but I don't like typing on it. It is too small for regular typing and too big for thumb typing.
