Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kudos. I've learned a little about plumbing, but electrical work has always been intimidating for some reason. Electricity and chainsaws- two things in home repair that I just don't mess with.

I've got a scar and nerve damage in my left index finger from an immersion blender. I learned my limits with power tools.

The Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid. About 53 mpg as a hybrid, 20-25 miles of electric range. We got 25 miles of electric vehicle range last night, including highway driving @ speeds of up to 80 mph

I notice no one has posited that wouldn't have happened on a metal rim. Most likely it would have dented badly and been just as unusable. I know a sharp edge is hard to protect against, but is it possible you are running your tires a little soft...even for your minuscule weight?

No, I run 23mm GP4000s on these wheels, and I inflate to 95F100R which is plenty for me. The accident was caused by a large rock (hidden in the shadows) and was not related to tire pressure.

Some of us have learned our lesson about posting that old school might be better. We can think it, but we don't post it.

Cool. I think that, with an 40-50 mile on electric range, I'd be able to not burn any gas 95% of my days. 25 would still probably cover 90% of my miles, though.

Is there any concern with the fuel going bad and do they have anything in-car to address that possibility?

Feel lucky that weren't born with chainsaws for hands. I think there was a movie about a guy like that. Or were they scissors?

It's a really great tool. I'm getting ready to buy the smallest hand held one Stihl markets. The only brand I would buy anymore.

Speaking of electric thingamabobs (wow - "thingamabob" doesn't get flagged by spell check!), I'm glad that the sun finally decided to come out and it's just in time - we have our solar system "witness" test in less than an hour. They need to be able to see that the panels aren't kicking unwanted juice back in to the grid during an outage - I was afraid that there wouldn't be enough sun to do so. Assuming all goes well, we'll be fully up and running in a couple hours.

My father-in-law removed the guard from his skillsaw. He survived.

If it was a steel wheel, he could just fix it with a hammer.

Do you know of any passenger car or truck sold anywhere that has a 'bad fuel sensor'? Is bad fuel contaminated or just morally deficient? As far as I know bad fuel happens once in a blue moon when some gas station gets water seeping into its storage tanks. So it's like mass shootings, you read about them, but your odds of falling victim to one are rather slim.

That one is right up there with my constant worries over the bubonic plague.

An addendum to the 25 miles of electric vehicle range we got out of our new Prius Prime last night: In the Car & Driver road test of the car, they whined about the EV range 'plummeting' (their words) to only 12 miles in highway driving. Now when I drove the car last night I was not going easy on the accelerator by any means, normal mixed driving, 60-80 mph on the highway. And we did get the range we were hoping for. Which underscores my long term observation (I have been a subscriber for 30 years) that the idiot hammer-head auto writers @ Car & Driver are incapable of driving a car in a normal fashion, those jerks could make a Tesla get under 15 mpg.

I rode 46 miles yesterday you know. 3600 vertical feet of climbing. I do need that shoulder surgery, that's what hurt the 3rd hour.

If I already posted that it's because I'm lucky if I can remember what day of the week it is, I turn 60 years old in like 5 weeks.
