Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had a delicious brown ale from a local brewery with my beef on weck at lunch.

Racing the 5200 tomorrow. Atleast if that wrecks it is what it is.

I think the thing that I am most upset about other not finishing, and possibly down a bike, is the fact that my wife gave me a whole day to ride, and all I managed was 26 miles. If I had known this was going to happen, I would have rather rode 100 miles.

Tomorrow with the crit, I’ll get another 25 at best.

I like to ride distance. Anything less than 50 seems like a waste.

Don’t even get me started on that leader board.

I have the whole week off, so unless it rains I plan on redeeming myself.

Second ride in the rain in a row, a week apart. For today's ride though, I had located the rain jacket. When not in use, it stuffed nicely into the spare bottle cage on the bars.

This is why I don’t race. I hope you bike turns out okay.

Went out this AM trying to do 50 on dirt- met up with some buddies 15 miles in and rode with them- it was slow and enjoyable until we got down by the Hudson, then it was windy and cold.

Wish for more climbing- 2200 feet was all packed into 10 miles in the middle, the rest was flat.

You can get a new fork for about $300.

replaced rotors and pads today with fresh ones. rotors may have had some life left (resurfaced once, 6,000 hilly miles, not yet paper thin), but it feels and looks nice. also, i hope i don't die on my ride tomorrow AM. working on brakes makes me super nervous. but i rode up and down the block for 10 minute to get them bedded and all seems well.

The trick is to tap it hard enough with a big enough hammer that is is bad. That's the only way to be sure.

Those are the rotors I want on the emonda. Shop didn’t have my size. I think I am going to wait until I get new super teams.

Speaking of that, can a shop straighten a spoke? or do they replace that? I have spare spokes, but I am a little worried that the shop won’t be able to straighten the wheel. The only consistent complaint with these wheels is that they are hard to true, and in some cases shops refused to work on them.

If I can get these straighten and I don’t need a new fork, then I will get a new set at some point in the future, and only use these old ones for racing.

Yes, but my bike fund is empty, several big purchases the last couple of months. A new fork is not what I want to spend money on.

Stages power meter
Super team wheels
Carbon Bars
Pedals

these are things that I want to spend money on.

Might have to stop racing then. Accidents happen. A fork can be replaced easily, broken bones take time to heal.
