Numbers look a lot smaller than the Alpine which is a bonus. Slopes look steeper though. Still, I'm a lot better at short and steep than long and moderately steep.

Have you done one of these before climbo? How long it take you to finish?

Far cough!

The have you riding up redwoods or something? That looks much worse than the dirt works. Did it kick you in the arse or you do okay? You'll be doing this one in 4 hours!

I rode up halfwayhill past all the bludgers who were walking to cries of "get of and save your energy" my response was something like "It's a farkin bike race, not a walk".

Still, I wasnt feeling the best as they all passed me on the next flat section with my legs feeling like they had fallen off

Best part was the dude dressed as groundskeeper Willie, who told me he thought my accent was really good and was amazed that I could keep it up :ROFLMAO:

See, I rekon walkin's cheatin. You got wheels, you got to use them. But then again, coming last (or not making it to the finish "again") sucks. Is walking up the hills what all the smart people do?

Rekon I'll have to give it a go. Got to give this new bike a workout. :)

classic1 02-15-06 06:30 AM

Saccy, how didja go with the BB and headset?

badsac 02-15-06 07:07 AM

She's in the shop at the minute. Been in for 3 days so far and haven't heard back from them yet. Usually a bad sign. Hope they aren't putting crap in it without asking me first. I'll give them a call tomorrow and find out. Hopefully they've just farked up something at the service. I'm never that lucky though. :(

no real arse kicking - very average time

winner of the Fling was just under 4 hours - me 6 hours, last person in about 8 ... on a moderately hilly course, only one real difficult riding section.

winner of last years Dirtworks was 4:45 >>> means course is harder, tougher rockier sections etc... makes for slower going in those areas. But that's why we do it, fire trails can get pretty boring. :)

only ever done 3 long distance races.

Other one I did was in the US, 101 miles, 10 hours worth of riding when I was much fitter than I am now. :(

badsac 02-15-06 03:35 PM

Come now climbo. Stop being so humble. Even Jocko of the "108 km/h passing cars up hill into a headwind" fame rekons you're to crazy fast for him up the hills. Admit it. That 6 hours was with Expat on his tandem with Expat sightseeing with his feet up? ;)

I rekon I could give that 8 hours a shake. :)

Thylacine 02-15-06 03:45 PM

When is that Dirtworks Classic? I need some motivation after last weekends stupidly p¡ss-poor effort in the Bendigo 8hr. What a disaster that was - two infected bites on my arm, and a broken rear derailleur later meant a premature hometime for me.

Pshaw, how tall are you man? Might have an SS you can borrow :)

Okay, scrap that last request. Went to the Dirtworks site and looked it up. May should be enough time for me to pull my finger out.

climbo 02-15-06 04:37 PM

May 7th - why not join us then. Camping is free with entry.

badsac 02-15-06 04:38 PM

She's run on the 7th of May and St Albans. A nice little spot north west of Sydeney.

How you bust your deraileur?

Infected bites on your arm? Should spend more time riding and less time with dubious ladies in the bush. :p

[edit] Climbo's smarter cause he knows linkies. :(

climbo 02-15-06 04:41 PM

well saccy, lookie there, he used his own knowledge to find it, we shouldn't have bothered :)

Imagine that. Someone looking up there own crap around here. Will wonders never cease?

pshaw 02-15-06 06:38 PM

Thanks Tiger, I'm about 5'8', ride a M (17.5) Klein.

Jock, what gear are you running? in the Olympic sprint last night you looked like you were big Jan grinding along with Scarfe spinning about 500RPM

As for my performance 6/4/3/5/-
Still, back aint aching as much :)

jock 02-15-06 06:49 PM

96.4" :roflmao:

couldn't be bothered changing from my setup for the pursuit on Saturday. Was never going to get over the top of it, but was interesting to see how useful/useless it was in all the different race formats. Perfect for some styles of racing, but really slooooowwww acceleration. Totally different feel on DGV.

My 48x15 gives an electric start, dropped page and holly like they were standing still :D
Funny realising my pace in the olympic wasnt fast enough for Brad to get on top of his gear, hence why he used the banking for a sling at the end of my lap.
Funny part was I thought it was the other team on a catch  not possible but i didnt expect to see someone on my outside...
