Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

nope, for scurvey the solution was limes (any citrus fruit) for vitamin C. that where the phrase "aargh, yer just a bunch of limey bastids!" comes from.

gin and tonic because until recently they put quinine in tonic water.

Indian tonic contains quinine 'coz it's a treatment for malaria or some other tropical disease. Back in the days of the Raj it really was a medicinal "tonic" and I am sure the fact it went down well with gin was not overlooked as well

Was talking to someone else who road the DW100m I reckon we could map out a really nice 100 in ourimbah, including the XC course, other side of XC road, some firetrail, old XC course etc.
Might get the map out!

What was your mate saying about the route Paul? With my moaning you've got to take into account I'm a noob. Maybe what they threw up was good standard long distance xc mtb racing fare?

Where exactly is ourimbah btw?

Should be plenty of vitamin C in that pickled cabbage. Be pretty stinky in the bunk room though

Man, my Arete Sc is only 225g lighter than the equivalent Arete SL. That's about half a waterbottles' worth of water.

Hey saccy, mates said pretty muchthe same as you e.g.
Waaaay too much sand!
Not very flowing
Lots of crappy rock shelve drop offs
A waking section in a bike race

One mate got to the walking section and met someone else on their way back...dunno maybe the trails crossed, anyway he turned round and road back to the village at 75odd kays cause he thought it was crap!

Ourimbah is on the NSW central coast next to Gosford. Make a weekend of it and there are loads of trails to ride, maybe even squeeze in a CCCC RR.
Ourimbah XC course
Killingworth XC course
Glenrock nat park
Boudhi nat park (Staples Lookout/WoyWoy tip/Pearl beach)
Tons of trails to ride

Is Ourimbah on the train line to Newcastle? We have friends in Newcastle that we'll probably visit in the not too distant future.

Ourimbah is indeed on the trainline between sydney and newcastle, but it's not a major stop. You would have to catch an all-stations train from either gosford (coming from the sydney end) or wyong (coming from the newcastle end). Ourimbah station is about 10-15 mins from either option.

timetables at www.cityrail.info or as an alternative https://www.cityrail.info/

I didn't mind going down the drop offs. Going up them gave me the irrates though. You get over the trials mindset after a while.

hmmm.... hard to say saccy. I've never been able to jump quite that high!

but yer definitely looking at the ourimbah/lisarow area (eastern side of the freeway). The two roundabouts at the top/left are the F3 ourimbah interchange. Our crit course goes around that cluster of white buildings just down and to the right of there.

willy or climbo will know the trails area

You guys sound like a bunch of old roadies or somethin'

Sounds like fun to me.

My race on Sunday consisted of mud rain and more mud! Raced for 4.5 hours (6hr enduro)then called it quits.

Some super dodgy descents on steep rutted terrain. Very scary.

I'm going out now for an easy one, and I expect to see an orange bike with MTB style decals out there

Not as bad as yesterday: 10 degrees as 4pm, so I only did an hour
