Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Was it a LOOK that broke? Who had the broken plastic frame? I can't keep track anymore.

Hitchy's plastic 486 took a tumble and put the derailleur through the spokes or something like that. It rings a bell that it buggered up the derailleur hanger and he got a new frame out of the deal.

yeah, that was Hitchy's 486, but the 'derailleur/Thylacine' incident left only superficial damage; the frame was replaced a couple of months later after he noticed crack(s?) at the chainstay/BB join, apparently caused by normal hammering.

nah, I don't think so. He just spotted some marks when he was cleaning his bike which he thought was cracked paint (a suspicious sign), but obviously turned out to be cracks

that's why, when I'm pasting a quote from somewhere else, I not only use quotation marks, but I often also use italics, a different colour, and a different font to make it REALLY obvious that they ain't my words!! This usually makes my quotes idiot proof, but.........

I told that man he needed a Titanium frame....and needed to learn how to run red lights.

What's up with the 15 year old wanting to know how to weight train for cycling? Why doesn't he just do what the rest of us did back then - ride like an idiot until you bonk so hard you have to go have a lie-down on the side of the road, then repeat?

Tiger, you forgot the spewing. It's all part of training. I posted there, not so much in Ed's defence as to make fun of someone's boast.

By the way, when I was 20, I was a dedicated roadie with a Ciocc and a Basso. I could ride all day, and I was a mad sprinter. I just couldn't maintain a high average speed.

Honestly, I've seen plenty of posts like that. You'd be surprised how many people hit the SPAM button instead of REPLY. Keeps me amused. I reckon you're a pretty smart guy though.
