Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any of you guys raced at Phillip Island?? There is a race there next week, and I fancy having a crack!

What is it like - I have only ever ridden about 8-10 crits in D grade, so it should be fun...

Any comments??

Geez, I'd want a new Madone for each ride thrown in at that price, and it's still too expensive. I'll have to make do with the cycling boot camp one of my mates is running early October this year - includes :-

Accommodation (cabins at camping ground)
Pasta lunches
Breakfasts
Sports Drink & gels
Tubes
Mechanic
Sag Wagon
First Aid
More hills than you can shake a stick at

NZD$480 - dinners extra

You;re all welcome

Before it came back from the powdercoaters I was skeptical, but when I pulled it out of the box I kinda liked it! It's a really nice matte reddy-brown, not dissimilar to the colour of Central Oz, if you've ever been there. It's set off really nicely by the white decals and stainless dropouts.

To be honest, I'm just happy that Adam was adventurous and didn't want a mid blue like every other monkey. Takes some serious kahunas to choose a matte brown for a 2600 buck custom frame, and he pulled it off as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, next frame is orange with gold sparkles in the front, raw Titanium in the back, so it all evens out in the end

BTW, that a cromo frame? If so, isn't steel painted the colour of rust a bit cynical? Or prophetical? Tell you the truth, I do like it myself. I always thought if ever I got a custom done I'd get it in a copper colour, so that's not to far off.

Can;t wait to see your new jobbie.

we've got half a dozen songs recorded properly, but they're not mastered yet, and with six musos and seven or eight multitracked instruments on each they're a bit busy, so we don't really want to get them out there yet. We'll record a couple more of the newer ones soon, toss the weakest then get them mastered for an ep. Then we'll be happy to set them loose. I spose we'll have to get a website up to host and promote them.

Where are you guys finding/downloading music from on the web? I've not searched for new/indie music much online. Any particular sites you know have good reps and high exposure?

Vintage Klein? Yeah, they're okay, but not as good as this.

My dream one of these days is to remake one of those, except using an Easton front triangle and a polished Ti rear bolt-on subframe.

That would be HOT!

*Thumbs up* for copper, saccy. First ever Thylacine was copper, so I've got a bit of a soft spot for it. Painting a steel bike the colour of rust is not cynical or prophetical....clearly it's ironic, or at the very least, actual rust will get confused and avoid it because um...it will think it's already rusted!

*EDIT* Oh, Adam just e-mailled in some mid-build pix of 'The Brown Hornet'. I've just uploaded them to the Gallery

Bikes: 2006 Trek 5200, Avanti Corsa Pro, Giant Yukon, Ricardo Cro-Mo, 1992 Mongoose pro-comp, 1980 DiamondBack senior pro, 1980 Quicksilver... half a dozen other BMX bikes in various stages of completion.

Lotsa times but never on a pushie.
I've done sighting laps around there on a MTB... can't imagine racing there.
Like ed said, it's as windy as hell, and the wind direction can be all over the place in a single lap.

Who's doing the race? Got a link?

Ahh my finals start next week so sorry I cant. Plus the fact I still don't have a rear tyre, which makes riding hard.

Finals finish in 2 weeks so we will get organised then

What Ed said. Is the race at the GP track or on the public roads? The roads on Phillip Island are dead.

Fellas, here's some entertainment for the lads on this frosty Friday. Involves two of our favourite things, but mildly NSFW. Matagi, don't clink this link.
I didn't know you were into ladies underwear thylo - does Mrs Thylacine know? (adopts look of concern)

PS. I wasn't going to click the link but hubby heard me laughing at the post, wanted to know why and the rest, as they say, is history.

Race is CCCC, and is on the track. Been down before watching the motor bike GPs, but never thought about riding around on a pushie....
