Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

@ Beaconsfield Hard Rock

Sure ozbiker, what pretty pix do you need? Make it snappy though, coz it's 4:45 and I've got a helluva headache.

However, this little MP3 helped alleviate it somewhat!!

matagi, thylo didn't mean to send anyone to orsm but the bikeforum censorship stuffed the hyperlink. In the middle of the page there's a link to an mp3 of sam newman using the fwit line on talkback radio or something. Not necessarily funny, but I still cacked meself at how stupid and arrogant the man is.

You're forgiven. A lesson to me to check the URL before I click on a link.

Agree about Sam Newman - although occasionally he can be quite (unintentionally) funny.

Been and done it already, 90ks of an hour up tempo then the group picked up the old codgers and dragged them up and down the beach at a strict 30kmh before we hammered back through the hills to town for a coffee.

Now it's out to trim the edges and mow the lawn

Bugger! Had me first flat in something like 6 months today... just happened to be two thirds of the way through a RR.
I found and patched the leak pretty quickly (left the wheel on) and proceeded to pump it up with my Crank Bros mini pump (the one I'd taken back cos I thought it was a POS, the lbs stripped it, reassembled and said it was fine)
It ain't f******g fine! I reckon I pumped fer 5 minutes solid - bloody arm was siezing up but no friggin air was going in. Then after giving it up as a bad joke, it wouldn't release the valve.
The only way was to really reef on the thing... tearing the stem orf of course.
Hope the cows find a use fer it - cos I launched it into a paddock.
Do you guys use frame pumps or co2?

= grrr!!

I have a decent sized mini-pump that can put out a decent 120psi. Unfortunately my shoulders can only push it to 90psi on a good day, so I lean the valve end of the pump against a rock or something in order to get max pressure in without shearing off the presta valve (or my girly shoulders*!!).

With the broken collarbone I'd be lucky to pump 50psi in, so I'm now the proud owner of a CO2 cartridge kit. Hope it works, otherwise I'll be flagging cagers down for help

This looks ultra-cool: https://www.zorinpump.com/

But then again, I have had lotsa beer

*there's no way I can argue against any claims of blatant sexism, breaches of EEO, or similar. But the fact that I have girly shoulders remains, so just get over it.

A woman who can set tappet clearances...I think I'm in love

I went for a spin down to Mt Eliza this morning. Loved the ride, but I think I'm getting angry in my old age. After having some dude sit on my wheel for 15K's I turned around and told him to either do some work or F... off. He wasn't happy and eventually tagged onto a group of guys who overtook us. Does this annoy anyone else or am I being unreasonable?

Yeah, one bloke I spoke to after the race likes co2 while another likes frame pumps... didn't get too many opinions cos every bugger had just about nicked orf by the time I got back - got a lift with the bloke who puts out the "Road Race in progress" signs.
...mumble mumble POS pump...

That pump looks cool jock, wonder if there's a carbon aero one

I use a frame pump branded GIYO thats long and thin rather than short and fat that cost me about $30 and it works great. I've never had any problems with mine. It only works with Presta? valves (long skinny ones with lock nuts) though.

Slow down to 23kph, say hello, and wait for him to get bored and overtake, then sit on his wheel.

Isn't that the usual proceedure?

My LBS has these in stock https://www.topeak.com/2006/products/...rorocketcb.php
reckons they are pretty good? I'm thinking of investing as my old mtb pump has seen better days.
that and the fact I keep forgetting to swap it between seat bag and camelbak.
Still, you know us Scots, every penny is a prisoner, I dont see why I should have to pay to put air in my tyres, air is still free as far as I can tell?

Free air? Not if Johnny can help it
Nice looking pump but I was starting to look at something a bit more extreme like a Topeak Road Morph.
I'd like to see one IRL though... it might be like carrying me floor pump around.
Been looking at co2 and it looks like it'd be good fer racing - nice 'n' quick but at $9 a canister, it could get very exy as an everyday thing.
