Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like we need to organise a baton change between you and expat before he leaves. So whaddya say to a gentle ride around Newey next Saturday morning if its not raining? Stop at Leo's for melted crayons (read hot choccy) or vile bean juice of death (coffee) and some vegemite toast before heading out to do some hills. Expat lurvs hills. Specially after a big brekky.
Jock, we're way ahead of you. We rode to the lighthouse yesterday. Kotter's a pretty keen kid, and should have no trouble replacing me as the token Newy member. I don't think he likes the hills either.

Cool. He'll learn to love them I'm sure. When I did my training as a lad in Newcastle I used to pick all the routes that avoided the hills. Even the slightest bump was a reason to choose a different route.

So we can catch up later on, when the vodafone girls come out to play. I'll do some trackwork in Gosford this week instead, but will definitely catch up before you go.

No, those are the latest model of unobtanium wheels. Not only are you not able to buy them, but you can't even see them.

Sport drink, in my case Staminade. As for the fun bit, a cager pulled out in front of me while I was trundling along at a casual ~65kmh. So I had to put things right, as you do when you've had a ****ty ride. Up a cog and into it. Bit of lip as I passed him at 78kmh. I don't recall him saying anything back, on account of his lower jaw was on the floor

Settled into a nice rhythm after that and time-trialled it for as long as the wind was helping (tad over 6km). Wah-f'n-hoooo. Wish I could go that fast all the time. It's like catching the perfect wave. Except HR was way over 180 and I'm supposed to be doing base. Ah WTF.

Farkin 'ell. I'm staying away from you at the Alpine jock. You're a bludy monster. Pedalling past someone at 80 on the flat? What gearing you got? My poor gummy legs don't like pedalling faster than 50 even down a hill.

My heart don't like getting over 140 either.

53x12, just pedal fast. 140rpm gets you about 80kmh. But I can't do that without some form of assistance coz I'm too old and slow. Hell westerly is majic help.

I can hit 50+ on my MTB with full knobby tires, just coasting towards Jesmond. Is Saccy a bigger baby than me?

Who can pedal at 140 rpm? I got up to 120 once when I shifted the wrong gear at the wrong time and almost popped my knee's off. Just call me Jan, cept I've got less ticker.

Just kidding. I have so much back pain right now, I can barely concentrate on anything. But don't worry, I'll delete the poll later.

Nah, just playing around. I think it's funny.

No good to hear about the back pain. Have to give the missus a spell for a while till it gets better.

Hey. I normally buy tubes with other sh1te so I never pay attention to the price. But I just went down to the LBS then and bought two tubes which came out to $20! Fark me. Did I just get bent over and done in a not so nice way?

We sell them for $9 or 10 each, so you didn't get worked too badly.
