Mate we all need to have our memories of those 'almost' days in the sun. ;) Don't be too critical, he's lucky he has you to relate to. :p I wish I'd listened more to my old man. He and his bro raced track on silk tyres and bamboo rims but sadly as I grew up, I wasn't interested in much of what he had done. We didn't relate well, something I'm not happy about now :(

On a more sombre note, Channel Ten has axed our favourite brekky show! The official statement came out yesterday: Aerobics OzStyle is no more. I'm gonna miss those girls. :(

well i know its different, but most schools of thought in MTB state that light weight alu and carbon should be replaced every 2 - 3 years regardless due to the beating they get. given that a fork would endure a lot of stressand take little hits almost everytime you ride, replacing it every 2 years is not such a bad idea methinks...

a couple of weeks ago I panicked because my 1" Columbus muscle fork (or something at the front) was making a loud click every 15 mins or so, under heavy braking. I told my shop about it, and they happily swapped the fork for a new full-carbon Mizuno.

I guess the fact that the Columbus Muscle retails for about 600 bucks, and the Mizuno is about 300, made it an easy decision for them :)

Aluminium alll the way!The only carbon fiber iv got on my bikes is the bar ends on the MTB, they have hit he deck hard acouple of times and survived, but forks are a differant story, just call me synical.
Replacing a fork very couple of years at up to $700 because it might break, is ok for riders with a sponcer, but as a recreational-to work rider its to hard to justify the cost.
Did you see one of the Japaneez riders hit the bitumin a couple of weeks ago on SBS when a carbon fork parted from his bike?

I would have thought that replacing carbon forks every 2/3yrs is only necessary on competition bikes and not fully necessary on recreational scooters, depending on what sort of hammering they get of course.

Depends on where you ride a competion bike, in a velodrome no probs, on a public road theres every chance of bike damage from the road surfaces,and i recon alloy would last better than carbon for a longer period :)

Excellent stuff at the track last night. Had an all-in handicap and an all-in miss'n'out handicap with about 30 riders on track. Plenty of busy moments and fast racing.

Madison looks like an interesting event. Sat in the infield with Paul and a few other dudes receiving an outline of how everything works plus a few tips as well. Can't wait to have a fling myself.

Got my handicap for the weekend wheelrace: not enough to stay away unfortunately. Guess I'll have to attack conservatively then try to run with the guns :eek:

It hasn't really come to that, has it? :D I scored another bike on ebay today. A vintage Raleigh Twenty folder. I need one like another hole in the head, but looks like fun to restore. For reasons unexplained, they're nearly $300 in the US. I figured AU$31.89 plus postage was a good deal. Even at AU$100 all up, it's worth it.
