Oh dear!

The warm-up race has tended to be contested a bit more lately in A Grade, certainly at a better pace than earlier in the season. Most ppls are pretty "warmed up" by the time it's over :)

jock 02-08-06 09:10 PM

What's magus doing riding B Grade track for anyway? He needs to slip on a bigger ring and climb on board with A Grade I reckon. He's got legspeed to burn.

I'm gonna slip on a 14 on the other side, try 48x14 for a while.
Forgot to order a lockring with the new sprocket. Doh!

jock 02-08-06 09:58 PM

Don't really need the lockring if you use sufficient force when tightening the sprocket. The theory is that you [edit] can't [/edit] backpedal hard enough to wind it off.

That sed, I still use lock rings for peace of mind.

no track skids ok paul ? :)

pshaw 02-08-06 11:12 PM

How about tow ball mounts? I rekon you snap your top tube going over a big bump with those things.

Yep...that's your bad boy.

Picking up the new/old Daccordi next week. Pics will follow. Looks like it's running;
Mavic rims
Campag Record hubs
Dia-compe brakes & 105 levers
Capag downshifters
Dura-ace EX front/rear/cranks
Suntour fluted seatpost

So the question is, whats the best option for restore?
Sould I paint it and remake the decals? or leave it as is?
& what about the weird mix of shim/campy?
Would look nice with EX brakes and an offset frame/lugs paintjob?
Education welcome..!

That's a very personal question Dr Shaw, however I'll forgive your voyeristic tendencies just this once:

At Adcock I warm up on 48x15 on 622x23 tyres. Rollout is 6.83m. 85.5 inch gear. Legs can spin free at low speeds.

During racing I'm running 48x14 for a 7.31m rollout. 92 inch gear. Just over 50kmh at 120rpm. Effective top speed is 65kmh which, BTW, is pretty piss poor given that cruising speed during scratch races is normally 53kmh. I need plenty more power at high cadence. I see overspeed motorpacing in my future.

At DGV I use 50 x 14 for 7.62m rollout, which is about 96 inch gear. 55kmh at 120rpm. Effective top speed is 70kmh.

So why don't I just go to 94 or 96 inch gear at Adcock to get more speed? Wouldn't make me any faster in the long run. I can already feel my legs being 'behind the cadence' on 92 inches. It's like I just can't get over the gear and spin it out. I would probably be better off racing on 90 inches for about 6 weeks.

Enough detail? Good. Now we can all get some sleep :)

Researchers at the Cardiovascular Centre at the University Hospital, Zurich, recently found that a caffeine dose corresponding to two cups of coffee (200mg) significantly reduced exercised-induced myocardial blood flow during cycling.
I've long had the suspicion that caffeine was a more significant drug than most of us thought and this looks like some justification for my ambivalence. My experience is that it does really weird things to my heart rate.

So what's the word on Creatine? My doc recons I should be using it.

While the Dia-Compe brakes were excellent in their day you might be better off with some brand new modern-day ones. 25yo metal has a habit of breaking under stress. See Ozman's post from about a week ago.

For simplicity you could toss/eBay all the components and whack on a full ultegra or chorus groupo. That would give you a chance to do a really good tear down, buff, and respray on the frame. Man, spending your money is great fun! :D

My coach is a caffiene nazi as in "Zero intake is good". High caffiene input allows caffiene to displace other key compounds in your muscles, reducing their capacity to do good things.

Prolonged high doses also affects sleeping patterns, which means poor recovery.

jock 02-09-06 04:31 AM

The word on creatine is that there is no word yet. Very few products claim to have it (Growling Dog bars are one). The werd from AIS is "not really recommended for general use as the benefits and risks are not entirely understood"

think it helps in the ATP energy system. But if you are defficient. If you eat enough red meat and are predisposed you may just excrete it all and no benefit just water retention. Actually if you excrete it you may not get the water retention.

Ed lifts weights he might know.

jock 02-09-06 02:34 PM

Berny, are you sure the doc didn't say "Glucosamine and Chondroitin"? ;)

jock 02-09-06 02:37 PM

ditch the shifters and brakes, use the horiz dropouts to set it up as a fixed gear for crusing on the streets. Leave the paint as is, then nobody will steal it when you leave it outside the cafe. :)

On a side note, either that dream I had last night was real or I have some kinda swimming/biking injury 'cause man my arse hurts this morning. :D I'll have to do some googling medical research to find out what it is, feels like a constantly stiff hammy in my left butt.

And in case you haven't read back a bit, I'm in for the Dirtworks, just gotta start training for it now !!

jock 02-09-06 03:25 PM

Try this out and see if it helps.

http://www.exrx.net/Stretches/Gluteu...us/Seated.html

Stretch your ITB's as well. If it's really bad you might need a young physio-type girl to give it a good old fashioned rub :D
