Jock, let us in on your secret to pulling that one off. I spose not working with the Mrs would help.

badsac 01-26-06 04:45 PM

I'm working but wasn't going to. Was going to go riding the new mtb out the back of nowhere, but screwed the front derailleur yesterday on my first ofroad run on the thing when I fell over trying to clip out. Weakest fall ever. Bloody weak as piss mtb stuff. So thought I'd come into work. :(

And damn, is the bike slow on the tar. The turnoff to the offroading I did yesterday is 3/4 of the way out on my out and back time trial track. Took me the same amount of time to get out to the turn off as it takes me to do the whole course on my roadie. How bad is that? Motor's the same. Only the bike's changed. Can't imagine how slow it'd be if it didn't have lockout. Guess I've just got to try and work out how to ride it better.

Start at 7:00am, work like a dog, walk out the door. Oh yeah, and working as contractor for a govt agency helps. I don't get paid for the hours I don't work, so I guess I'll lose a few bucks today.

jock 01-26-06 04:55 PM

BTW, are u still doing the caluzzi-waterfall run? Wouldn't mind doing that ride once or twice before I get too old and crusty.

Good to hear of people that did worse than me. Nice not being alone in being weak as. How bad's that? :p

But yeah, a lot of people didn't get back over Tawonga gap. A lady came up to me in a tizz asking where Mt Beauty was so she could go get her husband. He must have been in a bad way to make her so worried.

was_bmxer 01-26-06 05:02 PM

Yeah, still riding it. Have been since I got back on the road bike around 99. I'm the tallest guy there, 195cm and ride an Orbea, you cant' miss me really.

Thinkning of stretching it to Stanwelll and a lap of the national park to make the most of it? Been doing shorter rides since the baby was born 3 weeks ago.

which way does that go? continue on down prices hwy to stanwell then back thru NP on lady wakehurst drv to waterfall?

was_bmxer 01-26-06 08:09 PM

Yeah, take the old P Hwy exit to stanwell, back through the park all the way up Audley to Sutherland, then grovel home.

I just got word from the Mrs that I don't have the time to go. It will be a few weeks for me, After she was home with the new baby for 1 week I did Akuna (about 130kays from my place) and had a nice little lunch, got home and am still making up brownie points. It's only been 2 weeks ago.

jock 01-26-06 08:26 PM

They just don't understand sometimes. ;)

Although I shouldn't say that, my missus is very flexible (even bought me a track bike for my birthday!!!!). I get more flak from the kids if I deviate from my normal routine.

Anyway, I wasn't planning on doing the Caluzzi run until about April, and only if I do fair to middly at the Old Geezers' State Champs. So far I'm 0 from 1 having made one terrible decision in the crit event a while back.

was_bmxer 01-26-06 08:31 PM

My wife is cool with it too, I only get bike pressy's assos bibs one year. Our kids are both under 2 and we both work together and mind the kids together. The only real imbalance is me riding as much as possible.

All this talk of track riding is making me so jelous. I have known Mr L Vignes for a long time (mid 80's) and he has always thought I would make a good kilo rider. Raced BMX and I weigh around 90-95kgs. One of these days.

Track racing is great fun and I enjoy it much more than road, but still love crits the best.

Track = top-fuel dragsters, plenty of adrenalin
Crits = British Touring Cars, with plenty of biff and barge
Road = driving from Sydney to Brisbane on the Pacific Hwy with 1927's Greatest Hits as your only source of entertainment: dull

There ya go, I've dissed road racing in a road forum :)

We'll send you to the ss/fixie forum with that attitude!

jock 01-26-06 09:04 PM

No.. no.. noooooooo.. that's even more boring than road racing

jock 01-26-06 09:07 PM

Don't get me wrong, I love being out there on the road. But I prefer to race the cagers. :D

You'd have to work on the "Disaffected hipster" thing too.

was_bmxer 01-26-06 09:33 PM

Yes I would love to try track racing and will one day. Been a problem that there are not many bikes in my size to have a go. Don't really want to buy another bike yet, my BMX has been gathering dust for about 2 years now. Been to the closest track (which is allright) twice in those 2 years.

At least for road riding you guys up north of Sydney have some nice spots to ride/look at. Heading down to the sutherland shire every weekend gets boring. I lived in Jindabyne on and off for about 4-5 years, the roads were slow as but long hills and no traffic with great veiws made up for anything else.

Unbelievable!!!! Must have put the moz on ya. I'll shut the f up in future. Hang on, you were the one who said they were crap. You mozzed yourself!!!

Nah, I didn't come off -- I was only going about 20kmh, and I'd just left home. Biggest bummer was that it snapped the Cateye wire running up the brake cable.

The brakes have always been a little loose, so there was more than usual movement in the whole caliper every time the brakes were applied. I guess this added stress to the bolt over the last 12 years!

classic1 01-27-06 02:25 AM

Just goes to show you that no bike part is infallible. That would be the weirdest failure I've heard of since I saw a headset cup crack all by itself, causing the rider to do an instant left hand turn into the dirt!

mrkott3r 01-27-06 03:03 AM

got all the sanding done today, on the bike. The weather should be good enough to paint tomorrow

berny 01-27-06 04:39 AM

There goes another kilogram. :) down to 77k :D

+1 for Track, only cause I can get by without too much in the way of real fitness.
