I plan on doing the night race and the 4 hour one later in the year. Need to get out and do some practice at night up there, but hopefully it will come off. I would like to do the May race but it clashes with my wife birthing my second daughter.

Stoopid receptionist didn't give me the details.

Lookie here

royale 04-26-06 12:33 AM

Yeah stupid thing is only for UK deliveries. You need a postcode, which is for UK addresses only.

I've emailed them but reply time is 24-72hrs.

I want my wheels damn it!

HDTVKSS 04-26-06 12:33 AM

Ill be there for the may round. what is silly though is that CCOMTB dont do a pointscore for anyone but members of CCOMTB. It would be nice if it applied to outside club riders like every other club series ive done

Thylacine 04-26-06 12:41 AM

Deliveryman - "I have a parcel here for XXXXX XXXX"
Secretary - "Sorry, no XXXXX XXXX works here"
Deliveryman - "Are you sure? It says XXXXX XXXX and this address"
Secretary - "Pretty sure"
Deliveryman - "Oh, okay....thanks"

Ten minutes pass. XXXXX XXXX walks past the secretary on the way to the water cooler.

XXXXX XXXX - "Hi Melanie, how's it going?"
Secretary - "Hi XXXXX. Pretty good thanks"

in that case, I assume you'd wanna do Beach Rd rides? There are quite a few large group rides that are total hammer-fests, and there are other, smaller groups coming out the local shops that aren't so fast. As far as weeknights go, John Kennedy does a couple of very slow, recovery rides (i forget which nights); I've seen a small Hampton Cycles group on Wednesdays, and they don't seem to be going too hard; Terry Hammond does a Wednesday night ride, and they go about half/three-quarter pace till the last 10km, where they fire up

here's a list of most of the large, hammer-fests:

There's also a Beach Rd., Tuesday night ride that hits the cnr of New St. and Beach at about 6:45pm.

As I suggested, there are other rides, you've just gotta ring around the shops. I'm not sure how welcoming some of the shop groups are, and I know some of them are a bit elitist, but I'm not gunna name names. Fairdinkum, some of them dress up in their matching bike shop gear and think they're a pro squad. It's a farkin joke!!:p I know Kennedy will welcome just about anyone.

crikey!! 80 is nothing!! Even I can sustain that :)

Wilchemy 04-26-06 01:47 AM

531, nice of you not to name names, even if we all have the "freedom" to say what we want...hehehe

Ianh..there are some other group rides that don't include Beach Rd too. Bikelife in Hawthorn has a Sunday ride up the 1 in 20 to Sassafrass (av spedd is high 20k's per hour if I recall), and I think there is a bunch from the cyclingforums board that 531 mentioned earlier that does a hilly loop up through Warrandyte & Kangaroo ground etc who welcome new dudes. Haven't done that one myself though.

Will see how things pan out, circumstances aside, PM us if you fancy heading up one weekend, with enough notice we should be able to make a rare appearance!

I am up for a rear wheel rebuild after breaking a spoke on my morning training ride today. I don't think I trust the remaining spokes, and you often have further breakages after one. GRRR

I also had to phone home to be rescued for the first time ever as the wheel was so far out of true it was jamming on the chain stay. My monster 28mm tyres didn't help there either.

It was such a beautiful morning today as well - I stopped for 10 minutes at the beach to watch the surfers enjoying the remnants of the storm generated big waves, then laughed at the poor saps queueing in the traffic, and then instant karma bit me on my back wheel :(

They are cheap for a zonal tube set. Just needs a bit of a re-spray. I think the graphics look terrible.

A friend bought a carbon Learsport frame for $300. Some guy bought the bike then stripped the parts and flogged the frame off through the LBS.

Thanks 531 and Alchemy for the suggestions on rides that are organised around melbourne.

Yay, new wheels just arrived.

They look sweet as. Hope freewheel sounds pretty beefy.
:D

Thylacine 04-26-06 08:00 PM

5 bucks says the first thing you do when you get home is put them on the scales :D

Those Learsports are the worst frames money can buy. I mean, is the Eifel tower just I-Beams? Is the Guggenheim at Bilbao just titanium sheets? Is the Boeing 777 just Nomex? No.

Oh, and the definition of triathlete? The inability to steer. :D

Hehehe! I just downloaded the Blood Brothers doing a cover of 'Under Pressure'. So very wrong.

Pretty safe bet I'd say.

What a coincidence that just happened to pick my scales up last night.
