Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes I sensed there was some sort of split somewhere when I tried to find info on the Master's Nats last year in Lancefield Vic. Cycling Australia were not too involved except that it was a sanctioned event but their website was totally devoid of info.
As a national assn. they don't seem too interested in anything much, beyond National track as is CNSW at state level.

Bikes: 2006 Trek 5200, Avanti Corsa Pro, Giant Yukon, Ricardo Cro-Mo, 1992 Mongoose pro-comp, 1980 DiamondBack senior pro, 1980 Quicksilver... half a dozen other BMX bikes in various stages of completion.

Righto. Finally got to have a chat with el Presidente this evening. Very helpful bloke.
I'm going to go and watch the Saturday crits (can only watch cos I've got the kids). Like 531Aussie mentioned, he asked what sort of riding/training I'd done and took a guess that I'd start off in 'D' grade... it's not his call though... I need to see the club handicapper who'll set me up for some time with whichever grade he reckond I belong in and go from there.

Veteran licences are definitely only for Veteran clubs, but that'll do me fer a while.

All going well, I could be doing my first crit Sat'die week. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers fellas!

good luck, they won't out you up too high until they know you have some bike skills so you'll end up in C at the most depending on what sort of nazi the handicapper is.

Yeah, ripper fun. Scratch, 3 lap H'Cap, 1/2 field sprints, individual pursuit, 6 lap grade handicapped scratch, and team pursuits. Plenty of people in the hurt box

A bit untidy for me with 5, 4, 1, 4, DNF, and a clip across the ear for surging in the team pursuit.

6 lap grd H'cap scratch was hilarious. The lads must've been a bit tired after their ITT, coz I went out hard trying to link up quickly with B Grade. I had expected everyone else to do likewise but they must've been a bit tired from the ITT: me and Pettigrew were off the front of the pack by at least 70m Game over. C Grade 1,2,3,4,5 easy

Saccy, you been spending too much time at www.realdoll.com. You can't just buy a bride, you have to nurture them through nine years of pain and suffering and then propose in a drunken fit at 3am.

See, I'm a traditionalist!

So true, except for the drunken fit of insanity bit.

I figured it was time after nearly 9 years of geniune ozzy bloke marriage proposal apathy. My missus was just about to dump me, I'm sure. Eleven years of marriage later she's probably wishing she had!!

But she's such a sweety. I got a leave pass to go training on DGV on Monday night, with none of the whining, bithcing or moaning that one should normally expect. Perhaps I should worry

She must have been drunk to say yes.

But now I see where I've been going wrong. Thanks for the tip.

(BTW. Should have known better than to click that link. Ah geez. Now I'm sacked.)

Yep, was hurting from track training mon/tue so just turned up to roll round and inflict pain on others.
Finished with -/2/2/crap 2ktime/-

Funny in the scratch race I put on some pace than could hardly get back on as magus/page/worby were all behind me and continued to wind it up! Lesson, drop in early instead of last in a 12 man strung out field.

In the 3 lap handicap, I gave crafty the nod and blasted the second lap, swung up and we had half a lap on the scratchies. Only prob was crafty and tierney were gone, so i swung back down and chased Cass for 2nd. If I had held on I might have had a chance of the win

All in all, good fun, no back pain and looking forward to some training!!

When the guns start putting on their aero bars/carbon wheels and revised gearing for the pursuit... you know you are in trouble!

Just having a little look at your site. How come a roadbike needs mud clearance? That's terrible treatment to give one of your fine works!

He's got some bids on it though. Should get at least $3.07.

Kotter - that Kona we talked about a while ago was an Avanti Kona road bike. Anyone know anything about them?

well the bike loks good.

I think Im off to see Maurice tomorrow to make me up a front wheel with that hub, if the price is right. But if its expensive i think ill find some motivation to build it myself.

After reading the sheldon brown article on wheel building im a little bit overwhelmed

Do you know which rack this is? THey only seem to have one traditional type of rack and it doesn't say anything about whether it'll fit disk equiped bikes or not.
