Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I rode the Sumersby RR circuit today. That is after I found where it was and how it went which only took me *two freekin hours*. What a pisser! The bloody map they have on the CNSW website is almost totally usless.
Pretty crappy track. Peat's Ridge Rd is ok but WF Rd is a bloody goat track! How the hell are they going to put all those riders on there in traffic, which I noted seems to flow quite freely on Sundays.
Coupla good hills too.

Like this? It's just a signature sign. It doesn't hack you or anything like that, it just displays what your computer broadcasts ..to you only...and no one else! The IP, Operating system, browser, and your ISP. It doesn't tell anybody else that info or record or store it in any way, either. You can snag one of these little signs at ****************** if you want. Beware, when you sign up for the codes, they'll of course try to get you to sign up for all kinds of junk. It is kind of neat though, eh? By the what I see on my end is MY info only. Just reassuring you. No you aren't crazy and no your 'puter hasn't caught a bug!

Hmmm, that might be your IP address, and I don't know if they're best kept private

I'm getting a weird thing sometimes after I edit a post, where the font is Times New Roman, and yeah, there are other little weird ****ies on there, and I can't scroll it.

It's not about economics. Once people understand that, they'll succeed at ebay. It's about psychology. Those early bidders will now start to daydream about how this new part will make their bike look cooler and go faster. It will build up over days, so that by auction end, they have such a huge emotional investment in this item, they'll bid too much, because they can't bear not having it. They've mentally installed it already, they've envisioned themselves picking up hot cycling chicks at Starbucks because of it already. The damage is done, they must over bid.

The correct way to ebay is to search by lowest price, then add it to your watch list. Once in a while you go through your list and delete anything bid up too high. The only time you want to consider bidding is in the last 24 hours or less.

I'm not keen on the idea that this info is up there. I'm not convinced that there's no way that it might compromise my security or anyone elses including the user. It might also require more memory requirement from the forum isp.
Tom, can you be sure that when you signed up for this thing there wasn't a worm or spyware planted? Do you have a spyware cleaner? I might add that your little sign is incomplete cause the little guy at the bottom is missing unlike yours Aussie. In any event it's an un-nerving distraction I think I can live without.

I don't like it either - it hasn't been picked up by any of my virus, adware or spyware detection programs.

However, Norton keeps telling me it is detecting an worm intrusion attempt from my computer to the danasoft.com website. This means there is some code embedded in that signature and I for one do NOT like that.

Bikes: 2006 Trek 5200, Avanti Corsa Pro, Giant Yukon, Ricardo Cro-Mo, 1992 Mongoose pro-comp, 1980 DiamondBack senior pro, 1980 Quicksilver... half a dozen other BMX bikes in various stages of completion.

All of that info is gathered automatically anyway... as well as when you visit, entry/exit pages, kb used, referrers etc etc. It all gets logged on the server.
The script he's using is a type of 'sniffer' - should just be a harmless bit of code - but yep, it's a waste of bandwidth.
If you visited one of my sites, I could tell you quite a bit about you - if I could be arsed going through all the stats

Regarding that annoying little danasoft.com sniffer thing - if you are running Firefox, you can go into Tools/Options/Content/Load Images then click Exceptions and put in the website, and voila! the little buggers disappear. (and Norton has stopped detecting intrusion attempts, so I guess the code is blocked as well)

Don't know how you do it with other browsers, but I guess there must be a similar feature.

I'm running Safari on a Mac. Glad danasoft went to all that trouble or I might not have known.

Anyone got any ideas on how to sell my old demo singlespeed? I had it on ebay for a pawltry 1300 bucks, had 9 watchers and nobody bid. I hate Australia, it's ****ing impossible to sell anything except **** in this ****ing place

Haha.

Windows users are funny. So Paranoid. With good reason I might add.

Ok, heres how it works.

The IP and other details are only seen by you, as it is a little bit of javascript which runs on the page once it's loaded on your computer(client side). On the script that Tom has it only shows me info I already know, and you can't see it. It only shows your own details.

I know bernys IP address now though because he just posted it in the forum.

IP addresses aren't private. Everytime you hit a web page it logs your IP against the request. Thats how we get stats on who surfing the web and our pages.

By the way if your don't want virus's worms etc. Stop using IE6. That browser is half the problem. Or better still switch to a Mac or Linux OS.

Change the thylacine sticker to a spot sticker, or maybe on-one.

Sorry, that was bit harsh. But that's the aussie market for you.

Is it any suprise that the alternative definition of 'Microsoft' is 'small and flacid'?

Yeah, maybe I should put a Spoken sticker on it and say that Malachai touched it?

Ah yes, it's THAT kinda Monday!

lets not open thw win vs OSX vs linux debate. The only reason apple doesnt have virii is because no ones uses it. Its built on old unpatched unix code. Its a disaster waiting to happen.

Royale, if you had teenage relatives using your system you'd be paranoid too.

I never use IE and would delete it from my system if I could. Next computer purchase will very likely be a Mac.

Linux? Yeah it's good, just too lazy to change over, I guess.

Thats just the best reason the MS crowd can come up with.

Did you know that apple offered a US$100,000 bounty to anyone who can compromise a standard install of OS X. You know what? No one has done it yet.

Most people who try this arguement are rarely in a position to comment on it, as they have only ever used MS products.

Whereas Windows is a disaster that's already happened.

It's un-Australian not to use a Mac. I believe it's part of the new sedition laws.

Yeah, windows isnt as bad as some people make out (mac addicts) it does have some problems like not asking you when executing/installing code (mac and linux do). If win dumped the registry it would be a lot more secure, but failing that asking you when installing crap will prevent a ****load of trojans/adware etc.

At least with windows there is a lot of software available

Cut it into smaller pieces and re-attach in just the right size for me?

Anyway, kinda hard not to give my 2cents.

Yeah i dont like Toms signature, but no offence, it gives me an insight into the kinda person. Sorry Tom but what is the/your point?. If you want to feel like a non-conformist etc great do it in your own time and dont impose all that "I know your computers secrets" crap on others!

On mac vs linux vs unix:
I dont think Microsoft really deserve the bagging they get, to use a bike analogy it's the same reason Trek, Giant & Lance cop flak in BF, tall poppy syndrome. If MS was to turn open source would that cure all wrong doings

Just try out all the other flavours to see which one you like best.

My antivirus and antispyware tells me it's clean.......hmm, can you tell me. All it does is read the normal info your computer sends out to every site and read it back to you only. My security levels are set to "PARANOID", by the way, and I get no intrusion attempt warning at all.

Yeah, all the anti-trust lawsuits are just 'tall poppy syndrome'

The reason Trek, Giant and Lance et al cop flak is because they're Tupperware - Corporate, bland, characterless entities, running a close second to the 'Myth of the Italian bike company'.
