Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There's our winner in the vest, Rachel was looking pretty comfortable for being at the end of a 250 mile run.

1) Crazy to run this far, obviously.

2) How can you only sleep for five minutes? Did she have someone wake her up?

I'd assume phone alarm, and a pit crew member there as backup.

The hardest part of the race has to be the post-race interview. I had a good spot for Men's winner Kilian's interview and I dunno how he could sit there and answer questions after all that. I reckon that's part of getting paid though.

Nope, not kidding.

Although Mother's Day is not the reason for going. We will celebrate our anniversary while in Milan, buy thats just the timing and not the trip purpose. Just wanted a trip, and that's how the timing worked out.

Will put up some pics for sure.

Real feel.in Merida today was 50C. Somewhat less here. That is the forecast for the week. Our housekeeper took her daughter to the doctor today, and he had already seen 40 heatstroke victims.

Taking care of my dead father's estate is not wasting time. Sometimes one needs to drive long distances to accomplish one's duties.

My office is upstairs. Why you tagging me in a day-to-day driving comment?

Found a pic of Rachel napping at mile 225. Pine needles are pretty comfy

After Mrs RSbob’s fall, I have been driving her ID4 (7+ weeks) while watching gas prices rise. It is a very fun car with excellent cornering and blistering acceleration plus all the creature comforts. Re-sale value is in the toilet, but that’s ok since we drive our cars for a decade or more. Now that she is able to drive, I am back to premium fueled my 23 MPG SUV, but still steal her car whenever possible.

Today’s cycling content: hill climb day. Looking to do 3,000’ the easy and hard way (some gradual and some not so much). Now that’s it in print, I am (or should be) committed.
Did the dirty deed and got all the climbing done. Took it easy and didn’t push or chase PRs, just wanted to get it done.Temps were in the high 50s with off and on drizzle, which made the descents exciting. The one inadvertent PR was on a 1.5 mile downhill at 37 MPH - which was a blast. Finished feeling good and not my usual spent, trashed and thrashed self.

A bummer indeed. We love Lake Como and have stayed lakeside twice. A few years back we had the second part of a trip scheduled for Sorrento and Salerno, but heavy storms were forecast with thunderstorms, mud slides and road closures. We decided to change plans and head instead to the south of France and had a wonderful time where it was sunny and warm.
