Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The dentist said I "did great" at sitting in the chair and having my poor tooth pulled out, whatever that means.

We got up to low 50s today after a couple days of 20s and light snow there’s hope yet.

I’m 5’7” tall and near 230# and rising. Also, my AC 1 is 7.5 and my 30 day average stick is 205 and also rising.

I agree the numbers are a bit high. How aggressive to push your weight and A1C down is actually quite philosophical and I like to consider quality of life and goals. I don’t know the details on your cancer and life expectancy. Realize the damage you are doing to organs from the elevated weight and glucose are cumulative but take years to have a real effect. So if you have a life expectancy of over 10-15 years I do think you should work on getting your weight down a bit and get the A1C down to 7 even. If your life expectancy is less than 10 years, it probably matters less.

I am much more aggressive in trying to get better A1C numbers in younger patients because they will be around for several decades and the goal is to avoid end-organ damage. On the other end of the spectrum, an elderly patient who is 88 and has an A1C of 8 or 9, I don’t really push very hard.

TL DR it depends

Bikes: I've lost count.

The price per litre of 91 petrol is about $3.15 here. those of you in the north american continent don't know how lucky you are.

Another warm one today, so I made a point of getting out as early as I could after getting at least SOME work on the patio done. I've been trying to get Mrs. GJ's accumulation of planting crap the hell off the table out there, because it's like the Roach Motel - crap checks in, but it doesn't check out! When I was working it didn't bother me so much because it's almost always too cold out to eat on the patio by the time we have dinner (generally after 8), but now that I'm retired, it would be nice to be able to sit out there some afternoons, with some ice tea, maybe something to nosh.

Anyway, I was able to get on the road a little after noon, and JUST missed the urchins from the last grade school on the Alameda before Crystal Springs - Wednesday is Early Day, for some reason. Most of the ride, I was able to stay in the shade. Temps were mostly mid-80s - pleasant till I had to stop and wait for a light to change.

Is that due, at least in part, to different tax rates?

When I was last in Canada (2009), the exchange rate was 1:1. I saw a 12-pack of Molson is a store in Pincher Creek, AB for about what it cost in Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania beer prices are relatively high.

Yep; B.C., for example, has higher provincial taxes on gasoline than does Ontario, as does Québec. There might also be supply differentials, though I don't know details on that.

I have no recollection, because I was put to sleep for the 'procedure'. Good thing, since it was prolonged and involved additional things to repair a perforated sinus thingy.

In hindsight it would have been something if I had brought my trumpet and tried to play it once some of that numbing stuff got on my lip.

Today's gasoline price at Sharon Park, in the middle of Sand Hill Row, was $6+ per gallon.

This prompted a discussion with Mrs tm, who wondered why the gas prices obviously went up before the station had to pay the higher prices. I replied with, "That's how capitalism woks, my love".

She was not having it.
