In the video they descend Baldy road. I don't like it. Going back GRR/GMR is so much nicer. Baldy road is steep and has the tunnel, usually car traffic, and takes you to Upland which means riding back to your car from there.
I've never done the "Lobster" ride but I have done hwy 39 to Dawson Saddle. You'd like that one.

Still not good. Going back for x-rays on Friday. Seems like it makes a little progress and then goes the other way. This morning it has felt pretty good so far. Yesterday I wore the Aircast and the foot was aching before we were done. I couldn't wait to get home and ice it.

Speaking of kids man I am just run down. Lily has always been strong-willed and temperamental but these terrible 2's are hitting hard. Full on tempter tantrums whenever she doesn't get exactly what she wants in the moment. Hitting, throwing food, all that fun stuff. And I am just sick and tired of being sick and tired. I really wanted to put in a solid week on the bike before entering my final road events over the last three weekends of the month. But I have a productive cough, tingly throat and feel low energy. Damnit man.

Hottest day of the year, so far, leading into the hottest week of the year, so far. 98 A right now. Looking for a high between 40 and 45 C.
It will cool down some when the rainy season begins, in June
What fun.

OTOH, here we're having a cool and cloudy week, after a warm and wet April. Also windy, to the extent that when I was getting ready to ride yesterday, I decided to do it ITG instead of IRL.

Jello? That’s a hard pass from me:
“The hides and bones of certain animals — often cows and pigs — are boiled, dried, treated with a strong acid or base, and finally filtered until the collagen is extracted. The collagen is then dried, ground into a powder, and sifted to make gelatin.”

Today’s cycling content: hill climb day. Looking to do 3,000’ the easy and hard way (some gradual and some not so much). Now that’s it in print, I am (or should be) committed.

We are heading to Lake Como, Luzern, Zermatt and Milan next week. The forecast for each day of our trip is 60% or more rain and storms every single day we will be there.
Likely a eat, drink and shop type trip more than an outdoors trip.

I've been training since September since I wanted to be good for Valley of the Sun stage race. An 8th GC (out of 40-something in 40+) is nothing to write home about but may be the highlight of my season. It is a specialist's race (w stage 1 TT) and guys come across the country for it so I guess I'm a little proud of it. At any rate I'm kinda tired and ready to stop training and racing so hard... Right in time for the kits
. Been a tough season mostly due to illness hampering my training since Lily started preschool right in my base season.
I still love to ride my bike and get tan so the kits will get plenty of usage for me over the summer, just not much in races since I'm kinda wrapped up.
RE: kit color, we had some pretty strong opposition from the road teams with last year's black colorway. Gets too hot, and is poor for safety/visibility on the road. I mostly train in the early morning in my garage but I totally get that so we came up with a lighter colorway this year

Even our dark colorway, for this year, should be visible enough on the road. Although most of my road miles are on some very quiet roads. We've had some fairly bright/colorful kits in years past...I'd even say garish in certain editions, last year's actually had a refined look in comparison. At least we didn't have the leopard-print bottoms that another local team was rocking for a couple seasons.

No, I had not. When you were here Pam said she thought you were going to the ski lifts. I've done it a few times, it's pretty tough for me.

Baldy road is pretty serious business. I driven up it a few times for hiking (Baldy). I kind want to do a backpacking loop over baldy, beers + food at the lodge, stumble into the Cucamonga wilderness and set up camp. Day 2, get some of the lower peaks that are more immediately visible from the IE, down icehouse canyon (purportedly beautiful) back to Manker Flats/the lifts.
Fun fact - I once had a bear in my old Corolla during an overnight camp trip with "the boys" back in the day. Inside the car. At Manker Flat campground at like 2 AM. Fortunately - no one was damaged in the incident, me, the bear, or the Corolla
.
Also I have inlaws in Upland that we visit often (north of the 210). So I am starting up at the Cucamonga wilderness often.

We climbed Baldy road with lots of other cyclists. Climbs like that seem easier when there are lots of riders but I much prefer the other way up. We went to the ski lift after watching the race come up Baldy road and turn up GRR. Later they finished at the lifts. I think Chris Horner passed Quintana up there to win the stage.

BF member RacerEx used to live in Upland. I drove out there to meet at his place to ride up and watch the ATOC. BF members Cleave and Wanders were also there, as was RacerExs' team. Wanders was visiting from the East and Ex had a bike for him to ride. Ex was a cat1 but he's very social on these kinds of rides.

Do you remember when Peter Sagan won ATOC by like a couple of seconds? To me, the highlight of that tour was his climb up Baldy. He turned himself inside out to stay in GC contention with the climbers up that thing and limit his losses. At the height of his physical ability most likely. A truly heroic effort up that climb.

Maybe weather patterns are different there, but 60/40 predictions are kind of weaselly. I suspect that at that level, you'll have a shower or two, but most of the time will be dry.

Heritage Square is abuzz as we await the first finisher of the Cocodona 250. That's miles, not kms. The leader is less than a mile out!!!
Sadly one runner passed away on course yesterday.

Yes I remember RacerEx well back in the glory days of the 33.
