Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I saw Wells at the Philly indoor boat show back in the '90s. She was there hawking and signing a cookbook she had published.
I once saw Gilligan, at a school event.

I might have had more. Haven't tracked back on all the the female lines. Doesn't appear the one of my surname saw major action:

Something in rsbob territory.

Seattle is doing Bicycle Weekends on Lake Washington Boulevard, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Everybody loves the idea, right? Well, a section of the road will be closed to cars, and these folks -- representing a certain demographic -- turned out to protest:

Looks like they left their tiki torches at home. This time.

What are the signs that I am being replaced by a bike?

A bottle of chain lube on your loved one's night stand?

I marinated two 3 lb batches of thighs in the citrus juice and achiote spice mixture. We cooked one on a charcoal grill and the other in the oven, which was a fun experiment. The oven batch was more saucy and flavorful, and the grilled one had superior juicy texture, which is a somewhat predictable result. Still it was pretty fun.

TOB's Safeway had a sale on two-packs of untrimmed Choice tri-tips. You'd think with a Meat Cutter in the family, I wouldn't have to trim them. HA! Anyway, they're trimmed. I'm gonna smoke them to 115-120, then toss them on a ripping hot gas grill and brown the outsides. Meanwhile, I'm making Santa Maria beans, but with 2 cans of black beans and one of white beans, instead of the traditional pinquito beans, because that's what's in the pantry. AND TYB is gonna make cornbread.

Pretty though. Is that water salt, fresh, or brackish?
I enjoyed the winter this year. Happy that we had a real final winter at the old place.

That's Wayne Creek which is part of a tidal estuary. So, brackish water.

I may have a new favourite coffee joint, but will need to go back for a hot drink to fully verify. They definitely have the best iced mocha I've ever drunk! These people really know how to roast some beans!!! 🫘

The Head Hotel lobby is a much cozier place but their coffee just comes in at a 6.6/10. I wonder how pissed off they would be if I grabbed a drink at Thumb Butte and walked over to drink it in the Hotel lobby.

It’s a slowly dying part of the country. We rode through little towns where only a few businesses remained open. Parents age, and their kids don’t want to take over the farm, although the state as a whole has seen growth over the last several years. Estimated population is only 800,000. The oil business has certainly contributed to that. It also brought drugs, drinking, prostitution and associated crime to the Williston area.

Seems like it's been that way since the Great Depression - rural areas where nobody wants to live because there's nothing there but nothing.

I have an electrical restoration task in my future. My 78 year old watch cleaning machine needs rewiring, The wiring is really simple - it's got an on/off switch wired to a light bulb and a large resistor to produce heat, and a rheostat connected and a 2-position toggle switch connected to an electric motor. The problem is that one or more of the wires running to the motor have a continuity fault, which I really hope isn't because one wire is touching another.

It's really simple and all the wiring is connected properly so all I need do is replace wires with new ones exactly aa they are now. The problem is I don't really know how to solder and these are all soldered connections.

Oh, and it's 110v, so if I do it wrong I could kill myself or burn down the house with the 3 jars of watch cleaning fluid. SO, I'm debating trying to find a small appliance repairman or electrician who will do it for me.

There's a red wine category on Jeopardy tonight. I've gotten 100% of them correct thus far, only 2 answers have been revealed yet tho.

Update:
I got all 5 red wine questions correct.

Honestly they were all just stupid easy
