Quote: What I wanna know is where are all the newbs who pop in, say hello, and then never get seen again?

If I were a scientist studying the Aussie Thread as a lifeform I would very quickly come to the conclusion that it was a serious candidate for extinction on the basis that it attracts fewer new stayers than the number of souls leaving.

And if I were a mod on BF I would be hoping that the scientist was right!!

Once the majority of newbs establish whether the Trek 1200 or the Specialized Allez with the Speedplay or Shimano pedals is for them, then they pop in here to get frightened by the locals, they probably just give up and leave. The rest of us are slow learners

Love to, but bloody car repairs have fallen apart already!

Have to attend stupid smash repairers on Sat morning between 8 and 10, but I'll see what I can do. Might just dump it with them and head over to Terrigal to link up. I'll TXT you if that plan looks like it might work out.

Cycling related questions are pretty much banned in this thread

As for the best, well that's a very subjective thing. You'll find a lot of support for the youngsters doing well or making their first break overseas here. The old troupe (Stu, Whitey, etc) get a deserved pat on the back when they earn it.

Next tour... TDF you mean? It's a three week lottery. And it's 10 months away. I'm sticking with anyone with OV in their name (eg. menchov etc.)

Compared to the Serotta thread, this thread is a positive wealth of pertinent information and riveting dialogue.

Any advice on track pedals.

Roadie runs some old Looks. dont want to invest in another pair of shoes
Was thinkin of new Looks for Roadie and move the current pedals over.

Will they cut the mustard on the track?

be a real track 'hero' and use clips and straps.

When people see you with double toe-straps they'll think: "shit, this guy must be a powerhouse"

theses MKS pedals seem to be easy to get. I think Hillbrick stocks them and the straps

Oi Aussies. . .
I know we don't do 'sales' in the general forums but this is
a "special" case. Available to y'all only (otherwise I'd snatch
it up).
Pogliaghi Pista frame and fork - repaint & with lotsa miles but a very
sweet rider. Was originally Eddie Salas' from new and bought from
him. Eddie rode for Australia in the Commonwealth games & Olympics, and
for the Italian trade team Amore & Vita (sp?). Ding it top tube
bondo'ed. Rides perfect - no-hands straight. Lloyds have the decals in
stock if needed for resto. 53 c-t seat and 53 c-c top.

If you are interested please PM me.
If no Aussie want's it off to some seppo (hopefully me) it goes.

Hey saccy, here's what Audax sed:

"Technically NO Legally Yes.
As it's the only daytime 200km Audax has, you do not need night riding gear i.e. lights vest etc. However drawing a long straw I think the national road rules say you must have them on at all times but we won't be checking for them.
"

I checked the NSW road rules and you don't need them to ride during the day, but you do need "a working bell or horn within easy reach". I might get some streamers for my handlerbars too. And a piece of cardboard stuck in the back wheel for that authentic motorbike sound

Ha! so true....

A set of MKS, double straps, wood soled Duegis and thighs like Kenrick Tucker and you've got instant bragging rights at the track.

A Look PKV with Io and Comete wheels probably wouldn't hurt either.

I've seen plenty of guys running with clipless pedals. I'll be doing the same until I can afford my Duegi Kierens

exactly. I raced plenty of track on the old white and grey Ultegra pedal. You could crank up the spring tension on them so tight, after a few 2 lap starting efforts you'd be so pissweak you had to hold the fence to wrench yer foot out sideways.

When you can squat 300kg and ride a 10.5 from the front, go the Duegis

probably fine, no need to go crazy, most guys just run road pedals anyway. As long as you can't pull out of the pedal, you'll be fine.

Marty,
I doubt anyone here would want to pay the shipping on that, which is anywhere from 60 - 435 bucks, depending on how hard you get reamed.

Pogs are pretty coverted frames. I could see someone getting that and doing a full restoration on it. The age and dinged top tube are against you, but if it's reasonably rust free, it would be a fun restoration job if someone has some dosh buring a hole in their pocket.

Ok, I apologize for my unclear post.
The frame is in Sydney.
The owner does not really want it to
leave Aus. and I honestly can't blame him.
Owner will arrange meeting with buyer and Ed Salas to
prove history of the frame.
If no takers down under it gets shipped here.
Hell I've paid to ship bikes from the Netherlands
and I have always coveted a Pog so maybe . . .
let me know.
