What road bike do you have?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I agree, but I think he is implying what you are saying more than just arguing price alone. If I was able to purchase a bike frame for only $300 I would have to think that something was bad. The QC passing frames get serial numbers and are sent out the door as official bikes, the factory 2nd bikes are panted but fail QC and are therefore sent out as Gray market bikes... This one didn't even make it to paint... how early in the QC process did it fail such that it didn't even get pain?!

ALL of this is of course hypothetical.... BDop could give a more accurate and ominous explanation of what is going on over there...

I would personally just ride a steel bike off craigslist before the carbon bike off ebay.

This. It's just hard for me to feel confident in a carbon frame that costs $300. I'm not saying the frame is bad and going to fail, but I just wouldn't feel safe on it. I would rather buy from a company that only re brands these frames and sells them for a much higher price, even though the only difference is it's painted and has logos (the brands that have a fake Italian name and with horrible Engrish on their website). At least I'll think they are doing some QC and that'll make me happy inside.

Well I bought my Chinese frame used and it had over 500 miles on it. Some things written on this board are not necessarily true concerning these Chinese frames. The quality control and customer satisfaction is looking very good according road bike review forum. I am sure there are bad companies to buy from and scam artists to avoid.

My newest ride. '13 Moto Le Champion Ti. Can't wait to put some miles on it.

FM028 that I built a couple years ago. Considering how much $$ I've got in it I've been so impressed with it. Compared to a Roubaix the only thing it lacks is a fancy paint job. I threw some Trek decals on it for $hits and giggles...(late night ebay shopping). Currently built with DA7800, Planet X CNC brakes, FSA carbon crankset, Deda alloy cockpit, and either carbon clinchers or Aksiums.

The Eddy - picked this up earlier in the summer from a guy who quit riding about 10 years ago. It's in excellent shape and rides great. I think it might soon get updated with some parts from the FM028 to make it fit my liking better. DA7400 is nice but I'm not much of a downtube shifter type of guy.

Interesting how the Willier has a longer stem, angled up slightly, while the Tarmac has a shorter tube angled down slightly. Differences in head tube height I guess?

I've got 2 personal favourites that will always be my go to bikes and permanent fixtures in my collection. One is my first road bike and the other is my dad's first road bike

2010 GT Series 4. My first road bike. Went into the LBS to buy a cheap hybrid commuter and left with this. Its not the most fancy or high end but IMO there is not many nicer looking bikes out there

Photo from my ride early this morning.

1972 CCM Turismo. My dad's first road bike. Just restored it last year and it rides great

Photo from my early morning ride last week.

Here's mine:

I know, I know, BD bike. Drivetrain-wise, it's the nicest bike I've ever owned, and my first road bike. Went out for a ride with a friend who competes in CX and is generally a road bike speed junkie, and I could keep up just fine except lagging during the sprint we tried. Considering I weigh almost twice what he does, I'm very happy with the bike and its capabilities! Trying out clipless shoes/pedals is in my future, but for the time being I do just fine with my street shoes and clips.
